Last week at our Summer Kickoff BBQ, we talked about something simple but important:
Summer is a gift—but it’s also an opportunity.
After a long season of classes, projects, work schedules, paying bills, and figuring out adulthood, it’s okay to rest. In fact, rest is part of God’s design.
Take the trip.
Go to the beach.
Sleep in.
Spend time with friends.
But don’t confuse rest with drift.
It’s easy to tell ourselves we’ll spend more time with God “when things slow down.” Then suddenly August arrives and we’ve spent more time scrolling than seeking.
The Apostle Paul understood the struggle:
“I do not do the good I want to do…” (Romans 7:19)
Most of us want to grow closer to God. The challenge isn’t desire—it’s intentionality.
What if this summer became a season of investment?
—A minutes in Scripture each day.
—Consistent prayer.
—Staying connected to Christian community.
—A lifestyle of worship.
You don’t become closer to Jesus by accident.
You become closer one choice at a time.
When summer ends, what do you hope will be different about your relationship with God?
