For over 50 years, the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church has provided the spiritual needs of Eastern Orthodox Christians in the beautiful Northern Shenandoah Valley. Located in the historic City of Wi******er, our Parish aptly reflects the American experience and is comprised of approximately 100 families representing several different ethnic and cultural groups. Whether you live

Beloved Sisters and Brothers in the Lord, look how your candles illuminate the night!

From one flame, you have all been set ablaze! From One Lord and Savior, every human being is renewed! From one burning candle, the world can be set alight with faith, with hope, and with love. Look into each other's faces and behold the shining lamps of God's creation! Look into each other's eyes, and see the light of God within your neighbors.

The Light that never wanes, the Sun that never sets, the Radiance that outshines the Moon and every Star–that is our inheritance tonight. That is the gift of God's gracious love. That is the gift that we are called to give to one another and to the world. We proclaim and we confess that the Son of God is alive in this world of ours.

We have journeyed with Him through His Holy Week, and we have arrived at His Empty Tomb. So therefore, let us proclaim to one and all: He is not here! He is Risen! Therefore, raise your countenances, raise your eyes, raise your hearts to the Heavens as we hear the Good News of His Resurrection from the dead.
