"Judas's Betrayal" - Matthew 26:14-50

When we think of evil, our minds tend to go to the most extreme examples. Murder, assault, child abuse, things of that nature. But one of the best examples of evil is the betrayal of our Lord Jesus Christ by His own follower and friend, Judas Iscariot.

Judas kept his focus on himself and his own desires instead of the will of God through Jesus Christ the Son. But Judas's betrayal did not just occur randomly. The evil that he let creep into his mind and heart snowballed out of control in the final act of disobedience when he led the Roman officers to arrest our Lord in return for 30 pieces of silver. Evil is contagious. If you let it near you, it is impossible, without the help of God, to keep it from tainting your soul.

Judas was disappointed in Jesus. As most of the Jews, Judas was expecting a grand military coup to overthrow the occupying Roman government and reestablish the physical kingdom of David in Jerusalem. He also most likely expected to be an important and highly regarded member of the king's counsel. So when your messiah is instead speaking of a heavenly kingdom and prophesying His own death, the ignorant human expectations are not being met. But instead of aligning his views with Christ and following His lead, Judas instead betrays his friend with a kiss, a sign of honor and love, and lets Satan use him as a tool in the murder of Jesus. Love cannot exist where evil is. God is love, and evil is not of God. He despises it! Therefore, the love Judas may have had for Jesus in the past was stamped out the moment Satan entered him.

A question we hear often is, "How could so much evil be in the world if God is real?" The truth is, God does permit evil in the sense that Satan is allowed to roam and we as humans have free will. This is not saying that God commits evil acts, quite the contrary! While Satan may tarry for now, his evil, sin, and death has been defeated by the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. Jesus even allowed evil to be enacted upon Himself! He was flogged, tortured, mocked, spit on, beaten, stripped naked, and ultimately crucified, forsaken by the very ones He came to save. But in this beautiful sacrifice, He has given us life and dominion over hell and the grave, promising that though this earthly life may be filled with pain and trials, our eternal life is secured in Him for those that believe. Praise His holy name! He wants us to love Him, more than anything else, and how could we not when we see the depth of His love for us? We will never be able to fully comprehend how much God loves us, but rest assured, it is the deepest, purest, most unconditional love that exists for those of us who walk with Him.

Applications:
1 - Others follow your lead. Know that since evil is contagious, if you are acting in ways outside of the will of God, others will witness that and follow suit. It is much easier to follow darkness than light. Be the example Christ wants you to be.

2 - Keep others' confidences. Be a true friend, no betrayal in your mind or heart. Love others the way Christ loves us.

3 - Love God on His terms. Put Him first in every part of your life. It is the least you can do for the Savior of this world who loves us so much that He sent the Son to die in our place.

Our prayer for you this week is that if you are struggling with unconfessed sin and evil in your life, no matter how insignificant you think it might be, that you would repent of it. Sin is a barrier between us and God and your relationship cannot grow deeper and more meaningful with that barrier in the way. Ask the Lord if there is anything in your life that He wants you to change and then ask Him to help you overcome it. He is faithful and will always honor this prayer. God bless you all this week!

Today's message was "What Salvation Provides."

John 10:27-30

Salvation provides leadership. Jesus Christ is our shepherd, and like sheep, we hear His voice and we know Him, just as He says He knows us. But to hear someone's voice and recognize it, we must have a relationship with them. True, God's voice is not always audible in the same way as talking to a fellow human, but for a Christian with a deep relationship with Christ, we can hear God's voice clearly when we study His word and when we spend time in prayer. The world can drown out His voice if we let it, so it's important to keep our eyes and focus on Jesus and to work on our relationship with Him as we would any other relationship. If you're struggling with hearing the Lord, spend silent prayer time just listening and journal what He lays on your heart.

Salvation provides security. Jesus has been given the duty to protect us and keep us. There is a lot of suffering in this earthly realm, but He has promised to hold us securely in His salvation. We have the promise of eternal life, Christ being our passageway into Heaven at our physical death, so what do we truly have to fear as Christians? Nothing! On the contrary, we have everything to look forward to once we leave this body. This glorious eternal life is a gift from God through Jesus Christ and His sacrifice made at Calvary. There is nothing we can do to earn it. All we must do is accept this beautiful gift and follow Jesus.

Salvation provides unity. In the same way that the Father and the Son are one, we are one with Them and with our fellow believers. The mystical love that the three persons of the Godhead share is the love that God shares with us. And we are to share this love with our fellow Christians. It is important to fellowship with believers by attending church and spending time with them as our family in Christ. The bond of unity is love, and proof of love is obedience. Jesus said Himself that the two greatest commandments are to love God with all your mind, body, and soul, and to love others as yourself. Our commitment to God is what allows this love to exist in our hearts.

Applications:
1- Deepen your relationship with Jesus. Spend more time in prayer and studying the Bible. This is how you truly know God.
2- Develop an eternal mindset. Don't let the worries of this world steal your focus. We look towards Heaven, an eternity with our Holy God Who sent His Son to die for us so that we may have eternal life in a place where there is no sorrow or sin.
3- Desire to love. Seek ways to show your Godly love to each other and to live in the unity of love that the Trinity exists within and shares with us.

Our prayer for you this week is to find ways to commit more time to your relationship with Christ. Any true, meaningful relationship takes work. Jesus is always waiting for you with open arms; do not hesitate to fall into His embrace and spend time with Him. God bless you all this week!

Today's message was "Getting Along."

Ephesians 4:29-32

As Christians, we are one family in Jesus Christ; brothers and sisters. As in any family, earthly or spiritual, there are bound to be disagreements in actions and words as well as hindrances to getting along, such as someone else's choices in lifestyle or their opinions. However, as believers in Christ which makes up the up the full body of the church, we are instructed how to act and respond to these situations.

Proper Speech
Our speech should not be rotten or distasteful, it should be wholesome. The tongue is hard to control, the Bible even says it is like fire, and much like fire, if your tongue gets out of control, the devastation can be catastrophic and difficult to fix. But if your tongue is hateful, it is because your heart is hateful. The tongue is a direct reflection of what we hold in our hearts. Therefore, our hearts should be postured towards God so that our speech reflects His holiness that we strive for. Furthermore, even if you are saying the right things, sometimes the timing is not right. We should be an encouragement to those around us, and sometimes what others need is a silent mouth while you listen to their worries. Just simply be there for them. There is a time and place for everything, including right speech.

Proper Spirit
We grieve the Holy Spirit when we act in ways that are contradictory to what Christ expects from us. Sin actually causes pain for God. And since we serve such a merciful and forgiving God, that is how we should approach those around us. Forgiveness should be given freely and fully with no expectation from the other person. When we hold grudges or resent someone who has done us wrong, we have not truly forgiven them. It's true that this is not always easy, in fact, it's one of the hardest things a person can do because it goes against the nature of our flesh. But we have a new nature in Christ Jesus when we are sealed by the Holy Spirit, a nature like His. Thank God He didn't have the difficulty of forgiveness that we do or He would not have given His life as a ransom for many at the cross!

Proper Service
This passage in Ephesians lays out improper feelings and actions along with the proper feelings and actions. We should cast off smoldering resentment that distorts our view of others. We should control our emotions so we don't have public outbursts or wild rage. We should refrain from defaming someone else with our speech. And we should give up anything that causes us to stumble in our walk with the Lord. On the opposite hand, we should be considerate and generous to all, just as God is to us. Be tenderhearted and compassionate, feeling empathy for others' circumstances. Our spirit should be troubled when someone else's spirit is troubled, and we should not only pray for them, we should help them in any way possible. Most importantly, we should forgive each other, just as Christ forgives us.

Applications:
Speak appropriately. Let everything that leaves your mouth be proper and righteous. Learn to hold your tongue when the time is inappropriate for words, however true they may be.

Seek the Holy Spirit. Allow the Spirit of God to guide your words and actions. Let Him encompass all you do.

Show humility. Know that we are all sinners and that not one of us is regarded higher than another. Humble yourselves by remembering the sacrifice Christ Jesus made for the whole world and pray that those around you would accept His gift of eternal life. The best way to show Christ to others is to act like Him.

Our prayer for you this week is to examine your heart. If there is anything dark you are holding onto, hand it over to God and ask Him to help you replace it with the perfect light of His grace and healing. Seek to be more like Christ in all you say and do. We also pray that if you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ, that you would join us at church sometime. We would gladly welcome you into the family of God. God bless you all this week!

Today's message was "Real Sight."

Luke 18:35-43

In this passage of scripture, a blind man is in a large crowd of people gathered to see Jesus. This man had undoubtedly heard many stories about this Jesus Who had performed miracles and healed many people. The blind man begins calling out to Jesus, for he can't see Him. The crowd around him tries to scold him to be silent, but he refuses, calling again loudly saying, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" This simple sentence holds so much beauty. He is asking for Jesus even though he doesn't know where He is in the crowd. He is calling to the Lord to come find him! He also refers to Jesus as the "Son of David" which directly references the Messiah the Jews were waiting for. This blind man knew Jesus was the promised Savior. He also asks Jesus to have mercy on him, something that only God can do. The blind man had true sight of who Jesus was and the crowd around him scoffing at him and scolding him may have had physical sight, but they were spiritually blind.

The world around us will continually try to silence our voice, but we must continue to seek Christ, just as the blind man did. After the man calls out to Jesus, our Lord responds by taking on the duty of a servant, finding the blind man in the crowd and asking what he needs. This man's boldness and humility is how we should all approach the throne of God.

Because of the man's faith, Jesus healed him and restored his sight. But it's important to know the Greek word used in this text. Jesus not only physically healed the man, but He told him that his faith had saved him! Jesus not only heals our ailments, He heals our soul with His beautiful gift of salvation. Praise be to God!

Applications:
1 - Call to Jesus. He knows what our hearts long for, but He tells us to ask of Him! There is nothing too big or too small for you to lay at His feet in petition.
2 - Come to Jesus. Seek the Lord in your life daily, not just when things are going badly or when you need something. God should not be our last resort, He should be our first starting point.
3 - Salvation is granted by Jesus. Perhaps the most miraculous power of Jesus Christ is to heal our eternal soul by bringing us into His presence and gifting us with everlasting life when we follow Him.

Our prayer for you this week is that if you are a believer, trust in God's power to answer prayers. He wants you to ask things of Him, but He also wants you to trust that He can do these things. Pray for His will, and see the wonders He can work in your life. If you are not a believer, we sincerely pray that you will seek Jesus Christ, the only Way, Truth, and Life. Your soul longs for completion and it will only be met with His presence in your life. Don't wait any longer, seek Him and you will find Him.

God bless you all this week!

“Jesus in Control”
Luke 6:6-11

1- The Situation
In this passage, Jesus healed a man on the Sabbath, once again. Instead of being awed and inspired by this selfless act and miracle, the Pharisees began to hate Jesus even more. You see, the Pharisees held a reputation among the Jews as the epitome of Godliness. They were viewed in the highest regard, fully devoted to ritualistic purity and following the law. In fact, they were so obsessed with following the rules that they had forsaken the most important aspects God intended for the law: mercy and compassion. They were not worried about the man whose hand was healed. They were more worried that Jesus had healed him on the Sabbath, a day when the law says you are not to work, but Jesus proved a point that day: He is Lord of the Sabbath.

2- The Scrutiny
In this passage, it is made clear that the Pharisees were not interested in observing Jesus because they respected Him or His works. They despised Him! In their mind, He was a heretic who embarrassed and shamed them publicly by exposing their hypocrisy. Who did He think He was to question such prudent men of God? They watched Him closely because they wanted to accuse Him publicly of wrong-doing, never once acknowledging that He very well could be who He said He was; the Son of God. Their hearts were so hardened that no matter what Jesus did or didn’t do, they viewed it as heresy. They even accused Him of being demonic! But Jesus knew their very thoughts and they were speechless in the face of His truth. When God speaks, you cannot argue.

3- The Solution
In His perfect authority and wisdom, Jesus defied the Pharisees and exposed their man-made rules as ridiculous. He healed the man with the withered hand, not caring that the Pharisees would ridicule Him. But they did far more than that. Their anger was so great that they were as fools! This reaction to God’s truth showed the hardness of their hearts with no willingness to listen humbly to the Lord.

Applications:
1 – Grace triumphs tradition. Don’t let your earnestness to follow God’s rules make you forget to have compassion for others. God is merciful and forgiving, we should be too!

2 – Attitude triumphs rigidity. God looks at the heart, not always the deeds. If your heart is not desiring to do God’s will, your deeds are meaningless. Don’t get too caught up in right and wrong that you believe yourself to better than others. We are all sinners in need of grace!

3 – Jesus triumphs self-centeredness. Turn to the Lord fully and He will transform your mind and heart. Desire to please Him and to love others will take the place of a self-serving need. God bless you all this week!

Today's message was "Lessons From the Vine - Part 1."

John 15:1-11

Jesus gave a metaphor in this passage regarding Himself, believers, and nonbelievers. He describes Himself as the vine, the branches of the vine are Christians, and God is the vine dresser. Grapes grow from branches, but all branches draw their life from the vine. Without the vine, there is no way to bear fruit and there is no living plant. Jesus is our life source and we as His branches are to bear fruit, but not all branches bear fruit equally.

There are four types of branches Jesus describes. It's important to note that in this context, the branches are believers but their produce is different. Firstly, there are branches that bear no fruit. They are believers but they do not necessarily show the evidence of Christ in their heart with their actions and deeds. These branches will be "taken up," lifted from the ground where they lay almost lifeless so that through sanctification, they can begin to bear the fruit they are required to bear. Secondly, we have branches that bear some fruit. They may do good things here and there, but there is much room for growth in their spiritual lives. Thirdly, we have the branches that bear more fruit. They live by example, showing the teachings of Jesus in how they interact with others. Finally, we have the branches that bear much fruit. These are the matured Christians who truly strive every day to live in a Christ-like manner. They abide in Him and the evidence of their faith is overwhelming to those around them. The latter is the type of believer God desires us all to be.

Just like any plant, pruning is essential to the health of the produce. Furthering your walk with the Lord will cause Him to remove harmful things from your life that are hindering an abundance of fruit to pour forth from you. This is sometimes painful, but it is necessary. It is also a distinct process, different from discipline that we sometimes receive. If you are being disciplined, you're walking down the wrong path. If you are being pruned, you are on the right path.

A close fellowship with God through Christ will enable you to bear the fruit of the Spirit. Abiding with the Lord does not come naturally to us in our human nature because it requires us to deny self and seek His will first. This is not always easy, but it is very rewarding. Spend time with God throughout every day and see what He will do for others through you.

Applications:
1 - Examine how much fruit you produce. Are you the branch that produces no fruit, are you the branch that produces much fruit, or are you somewhere in between? Regardless of your answer, there is always room for growth in Christ.

2 - Deny self if you are being pruned. If God is working in your life to remove obstacles that disable you from bearing the fruit of the Spirit, do not fight it. Do not run from what He is doing, even if it's painful. Embrace the Lord and let Him sanctify you.

3 - Abiding in Christ brings true joy. Living daily in the Lord brings the peace beyond understanding and the joy that can not be explained. This in itself is a fruit for others to see and to yearn for.

Our prayer for you this week is that you may further your relationship with God through Christ Jesus. Let Him overtake your heart and mind so that you may give up your selfish desires and seek first the Kingdom of God. If you do this, what's in store for you is far more rewarding than anything this world could give you. God bless you all this week!

Today's message was "Jehovah Shalom."

Judges 6:1-24

Throughout the Old Testament, there is a recurring cycle: The Israelites rebel against God, God pours out His judgment on them, the Israelites repent and turn back to God, and He rescues them from His judgment. Not much has changed in the way of human nature; we are still prone to turning our backs on the Lord and straying from His path. We are stubborn, rebellious, and feeble. But praise God that He is faithful and is always willing to draw closer to those who seek Him, even if they've strayed multiple times.

In the passage referenced above, The Angel of the Lord appeared to the Israelite Gideon to assure him that God would deliver His people from the Midianites. Once Gideon realizes that the Lord was with them and would keep His promises, Gideon receives true peace in his spirit. It is then that another of God's names is revealed in scripture: Jehovah Shalom, The Lord is Peace.

It is important to know that sometimes God allows us to hit rock bottom so that He becomes all we have to trust in and lean on. His power becomes evident when He is our only option. He desires our hearts and our devotion, yet it's easy to become reliant on money, assets, frivolous items, and even on other people. But God is truly all that we as Christians have as a guarantee. He will never abandon us. In truth, God is the only source of true peace. Peace is not circumstantial. There are many who are wealthy or seem to have an easy life, but without God, there is no true peace in their hearts, there is simply temporary happiness until what they have loses its luster and they need something else to try and fill the void. With Christ, our Prince of Peace, there is perfect joy and contentment in whatever life has dealt us because we can rest in the promise that He is with us always and we will one day see Him in all His glory and spend eternity in Paradise.

Although Christ is our source of peace, Christians can easily fall into complacency and thus lose their inner calmness. Our thoughts can lead us into a frenzy, anxious about what obstacles we are facing and what calamities may be unfolding in our lives. We must train our minds to focus on The Lord. When stressful thoughts invade our minds and hearts, we must make ourselves focus on what is good, true, and pure. We must focus our minds on the things of God. Only then will we experience the true peace that the Father has given us through The Son, Jesus Christ. When you intentionally seek God, it will become a routine and you will joyfully spend time in His presence daily, resting in His perfect peace. All praise to Jehovah Shalom, the Lord is Peace!

Applications:
1- Peace is not guaranteed. The world does not consistently give us an oasis to reside in. The only peace that is guaranteed to us is that of Jesus Christ, regardless of our circumstances.
2- Peace comes through obedience. Follow God's commands and submit yourself to His perfect will. To walk in faith with the Lord is to obey Him.
3- Peace begins with Christ. Jesus Christ is the source of all peace. Without Him as your savior, you will never experience this supernatural calm and security.

Our prayer for you is that if you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ, that you will pray for Him to reveal Himself to you through the study of His word and through His mighty power. Trust in Him as your Savior and see what He can do for your weary heart and soul. If you already know the Lord Jesus but are experiencing anxiety or dread anywhere in your life, we pray that you will draw closer to God and walk with Him daily by diving into the Bible and communing with Him in prayer. His peace never runs out and you can never draw too close to Him. God bless you all this week!

Today's message was "Jehovah Rapha."

Exodus 15:22-26

Jehovah Rapha is another name of God which means, "The Lord Who Heals." We know that God has the ultimate authority over everything that happens to us and He has the power to perform miracles. Healing is no exception. Yet we find throughout the scriptures that God works in ways to bring glory to Himself. Supernatural healing is one of the ways in which the Lord can show His mightiness. While God has the power to eradicate disease, heal the afflicted, and prevent health issues, Christians are not guaranteed a life of perfect health. Sometimes God uses our sickness to bring us closer to Him or to even share the gospel with others when they witness a steadfast faith in the midst of suffering. While God can take all disease away, it's important to know that healing is not always on this side of Heaven. Sometimes our healing is delivered when we close our eyes in this life and awaken in our everlasting life with a glorified body to spend eternity with God.

God often uses trials and hardships to test us. He may have given you a lessen before and He wants to know that you truly received the message. Just like the Israelites, when they were rescued from Egypt, sometimes we have to travel through the wilderness to make it to the Promised Land. Again, just because you're a Christian doesn't mean that your life will be perfect and free from heartache, but what a wonderful consolation to know that we walk with the God who has everything is His hand and He will be with you in the middle of the storm.

Healing is also not always physical. There can be mental healing, emotional healing, and most importantly, spiritual healing. Jesus Christ's death and resurrection brings about this spiritual healing. You see, God saves your soul from eternal death when you believe and accept Jesus Christ as your redeemer and savior. To truly experience the power of Jehovah Rapha, we must submit ourselves to God's will and follow Him. What a wonderful promise we have in God our Father that we may spend eternity with Him in Paradise one day and be fully healed from our frail, human body. That is our ultimate goal!

Applications:
1- Submission is they key to healing. Whatever healing you require, whether it's physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual, God is the only one who can provide it. Follow Him and see what He can do for you.

2- God's glory is the reason for healing. Whatever God delivers you from, let it be a testimony to His awesome power and give Him all the praise and honor.

3- Healing may not occur. Being within God's will means accepting that the physical healing from sickness may not be His plan. But we can rest assured that a final healing is promised for any and all who believe in Jesus Christ and accept Him as Lord.

We pray that if you are experiencing any kind of illness or affliction that you submit to God Almighty and let Him take the worry away from you. We are also here to pray for anyone who needs it so if you are not a member of our church or you haven't been with us in a while and you need prayer, please send us a message and we would be glad to add you to our prayer list. We pray that Jehovah Rapha, the Lord Who Heals, will place His mighty hand upon you and bring you peace and comfort. God bless you all this week!

Today's message was "Jehovah Jireh."

Before explaining the the compound name of Jehovah Jireh, it's important to first understand Jehovah. Jehovah is the personal name of God which was revealed to the ancient Hebrews. God the Creator shared His personal name with His people because He wanted a relationship with them, not just ritualistic religion and worship. The Lord desires that to this day, with all His people, including the Gentiles who have been graciously welcomed into the fold by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Jehovah longs for everyone to know Him, not just know about Him. We are so blessed to worship the one true God Who has revealed Himself intimately to any who are willing to draw close to Him. In the Old Testament, Moses spent time with the Lord and the Lord spoke to Him in the same manner as two friends sitting face to face. The extent of God's glory could not be revealed to Moses because no man can see His face and live, but Moses came closer to knowing the fullness of God than many in this life ever will. We should all long for that deep of a walk with the giver of life, our God Jehovah.

Jehovah Jireh means "The Lord Will Provide." Another wonderful example of walking close with the Lord was Abraham. He waited many years to be blessed with the son that God promised him, and once his son, Isaac, had finally arrived, God commanded Abraham to sacrifice his only son back to Him. Most parents cannot comprehend the thought of giving their child, much less their only child who they had waited so long for, back to God in such a manner. But Abraham obeyed and took his son to the place he'd been commanded. Upon arrival, Isaac asked his father why they had not brought something to sacrifice to the Lord, to which Abraham replied, "God will provide the sacrifice." And yes, He surely did. As Abraham was preparing to do the unthinkable, the Angel of the Lord demanded he stop: he had proven his faith in Jehovah and his son would be spared. In place of Isaac, God provided a ram for Abraham to offer as a sacrifice.

Many of us know about Jehovah, but can you truly say you KNOW Jehovah? Do you walk with Him daily and enjoy spending time in His presence? Is there an "Isaac" in your life that you can't bear sacrificing to God because it is too important to you? Let us not love the gifts in our lives more than the giver, our one and only true God, Jehovah Jireh, The Lord Will Provide.

Applications:
1- Is God your priority? Is He the One you love more than anything, the One whose presence you desire the most?
2- Is your relationship with God personal? Do you know the Lord intimately, or do you simply know of Him?
3- Is God your Isaac? Is God the one person you hold onto the dearest, the one you could not bear life without?
4- Are your actions instant obedience? Is your first thought to obey the Lord when He commands something of you, with no question and no hesitation?

We pray that Jehovah Jireh will bless you deeply and that you will desire to walk closely with Him, the One Who provides everything good in your life. Take time to draw closer to Him, He is always waiting and willing to enrich your life more fully than you could ever imagine. God bless you all this week!
