FREEDOM FROM SIN: KEYS TO VICTORY

- Why did David have victory over Goliath? (1 Samuel 17)
- Why did Elijah see an amazing act of God at Mount Carmel when he challenged the prophets of Baal? (1 Kings 18)
- Why did Gideon choose to take 300 men into battle against the strongest army in the world (over 100000 men)? (Judges 7)

1. They were confident of God's will- and His POWER to carry it out!

It's pretty hard to step out confidently in faith when you don't know
what the will of God is...

But David and Gideon and Elijah KNEW the promises of God.
They KNEW the blessings that were promised to the righteous man (Deuteronomy 28), and
they KNEW if they meditated on God's Words and didn't let it depart from
their mouths, it would go well with them! (Joshua 1:8, Deuteronomy 6:6-12)
They KNEW the things that God had done, and they KNEW God did not change- even though
things looked really bad for Israel in the days that they lived.

Do you KNOW that God wants you to be free from sin?
Read Romans 6, 1 John 3, and 2 Peter 1 to get yourself grounded
in this truth: it IS for freedom that Christ set you free!

Be BLESSED!
Ben

FREEDOM FROM SIN: KEYS TO VICTORY

- Why did David have victory over Goliath?
- Why did Elijah see an amazing act of God at Mount Carmel when he challenged the prophets of Baal?
- Why did Gideon choose to take 300 men into battle against the strongest army in the world (over 100000 men)?

1. They were confident of God's will in each instance

2. They were fully engaged in the battle; they were really ALL IN, and
committed to the point of death (if this doesn't work- I'm dead!)

3. They were fighting for something bigger than themselves- they were laying their lives down for the freedom of the nation.

4. They placed their faith- their trust- completely in God! They remembered God's faithfulness.

What does this have to do with freedom from sin? We'll the a closer look at each one of these points over the next 2 days. Meditate on how these relate to your personal battles.

Love you guys!
Be blessed :-)

Hey guys! Tonight, we'll be starting our study on "Walking Free From Sin".

- Can you be free from sin?
- What does it require (what is the cost)?
- If we can be free from sin- why does it still happen?
- What does it mean that you are the righteousness of God in Christ?
- How do I REALLY LIVE free from sin?

This is what we'll be diving into for the next few weeks- hint: we can ALL walk like Jesus ;-); hope to see you here in Wilsonville @ 7pm. Be blessed!

Rom 6:11 "...you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus."

If you haven't tried this yet, please download it soon; you'll thank me!

There are some great add-ons you can get at an extra cost
(like the Wuest Bible, Wuest's Word studies, IVP Bible Background, etc...)

But there's a TON of great materials you can get for free:
- KJV with Strong's concordance built in
- Thayer's (which is a better accuracy concordance than Strong's for Greek)
- BDB (a better accuracy concordance for Hebrew)
- The ISBE (complete Bible dictionary)

The setup is very intuitive, and the journaling section is awesome too :-).

Have fun; love you guys!

Why can ALL believers prophecy?

Reason #2: Because PROPHECY says you will PROPHECY when the Spirit comes to live in you!

On the day of Pentecost when the disciples received the Holy Spirit and began speaking in tongues, the people gathered in Jerusalem at the time wanted to know what all the ruckus was about; they were alarmed because they were from many different countries, but they could hear in their own language these (uneducated) Galileans telling the wonderful works of God!

Peter stood up and quoted this passage from Joel 2:

“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters SHALL PROPHECY, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Even on the male and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit."

When the Spirit is poured out on people, prophecy happens as a natural byproduct- because He is the one who leads us into all truth and SHOWS US things to come.

Isa 59:20-21 "And a Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who turn from transgression," declares the LORD. "And as for me, this is my covenant with them," says the LORD: "My Spirit that is upon you, and my words that I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your offspring, or out of the mouth of your children's offspring," says the LORD, "from this time forth and forevermore."

(P.S. This is a prophecy for Israel, I.E. "those in Jacob;" However, because you have been grafted into the Hebrew nation (Romans 11), this promise is for you too. You are a Jew inwardly- Romans 2:25-29- and because you are in Christ, you are Abraham's seed and heir to the promise! - Galatians 3:13-14, 3:28-29) .

Peace :-)
