Why can ALL believers prophecy?
Reason #2: Because PROPHECY says you will PROPHECY when the Spirit comes to live in you!
On the day of Pentecost when the disciples received the Holy Spirit and began speaking in tongues, the people gathered in Jerusalem at the time wanted to know what all the ruckus was about; they were alarmed because they were from many different countries, but they could hear in their own language these (uneducated) Galileans telling the wonderful works of God!
Peter stood up and quoted this passage from Joel 2:
“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters SHALL PROPHECY, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Even on the male and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit."
When the Spirit is poured out on people, prophecy happens as a natural byproduct- because He is the one who leads us into all truth and SHOWS US things to come.
Isa 59:20-21 "And a Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who turn from transgression," declares the LORD. "And as for me, this is my covenant with them," says the LORD: "My Spirit that is upon you, and my words that I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your offspring, or out of the mouth of your children's offspring," says the LORD, "from this time forth and forevermore."
(P.S. This is a prophecy for Israel, I.E. "those in Jacob;" However, because you have been grafted into the Hebrew nation (Romans 11), this promise is for you too. You are a Jew inwardly- Romans 2:25-29- and because you are in Christ, you are Abraham's seed and heir to the promise! - Galatians 3:13-14, 3:28-29) .
Peace :-)
