First Presbyterian Church is pleased to recognize this year’s scholarship recipients and celebrate the accomplishments of our graduating seniors.
The Ruth Gunter and Gordon Sauls Scholarship and The Bissette Scholarship share a common purpose of recognizing leadership, service, and dedication to the church community.
The Ruth Gunter and Gordon Sauls Scholarship is a one-time gift designated for the first year of study at a college or technical school for a church member or active church youth who has demonstrated leadership and a love of the church. This scholarship honors Ruth Gunter, a faithful participant in Presbyterian Women, dedicated deacon, and founder of Wednesday night fellowship programs, and Gordon Sauls, a devoted elder and church leader whose humor and grace touched many lives.
The Bissette Scholarship is a one-time gift designated for the first year of study at a college or technical school for a church member or active church youth who has participated in church activities and mission outreach efforts. This scholarship honors James Bissette, a faithful servant of the church who served as Cub Master, deacon, elder, and chair of both the finance and stewardship committees.
This year, the combined Gunter, Bissette, and Sauls Scholarship is awarded to Pete Bolt.
The Nancy Elizabeth Marlowe Scholarship is a one-time scholarship designated for undergraduate study at a university or community college for a church member or active church youth with financial need. The scholarship honors the memory of Elizabeth Marlowe, whose intelligence, joy, humor, and kind spirit continue to inspire others.
This year’s scholarship award is presented to Charlie Thurston.
The Cora Bond Morrison Endowed Scholarship is a one-time gift designated for the first year of study at a college or technical school for a student from First Presbyterian Church of Wilson who demonstrates financial need. This scholarship honors the memory of Cora Bond Morrison, whose wisdom, strength, perseverance, and faithful service to the church left a lasting legacy.
This year’s scholarship award is presented to Mackenzie Poythress.
