Message I shared with my church this morning...

Morning Manna: GOD'S GOT IT, Mark 4:38-40.

Yesterday's incident at New Hanover High School (where my son and other Price members attend) was quite tragic. I understand that there are issues at Laney High School as well. I even read this morning about a potential threat at Shallotte Middle School in Brunswick County. Please pray for ALL students, faculty and staff in schools everywhere.

Yesterday when I went to retrieve Jadon from his assigned safe place, I was told an interesting story. Jadon, his teachers and other students were crouched in the corner to avoid potential gunfire. As they waited, one of the staff members noticed a bewildered look on Jadon's face, she provided him with a stack of pillows. Within minutes, Jadon was asleep on the pillows.

I was reminded of the story in Mark 4, where Jesus was found sleeping on a pillow in the midst of a storm (Mark 4:38). When I received the news of the shooting and lockdown. I knew I couldn't get to my child, so I prayed and trusted that God had the situation under control. The song GOD'S GOT IT by J Moss (link below) resonated with me the entire time.

I know things look bad, but they could have been worse. More students could have been injured, someone could even have been killed yesterday.

So, I want to encourage you this morning. I want to remind you that even in all of this GOD'S GOT IT. Although it may not seem like it at times, GOD'S GOT IT!

Morning Manna: QUIET SONG, Psalm 42:1–11.

At this time, we long for peace, because the recent Capitol riot has left many of us with feelings of anguish, confusion, anger and possibly depression. The incident on last Wednesday, coupled with a pandemic that is STILL ravaging this country has been riveting. But this morning, we turn our attention from the news and turn it to the Word for answers.

In Psalm 42, the psalmist knew a desperate longing, and an unquenched thirst for healing (vv. 1–2). Like us at times, the psalmist knew a sadness that felt like it would never go away (v. 3), leaving times of pure joy merely a distant memory (v. 6). Like many people today, the psalmist felt abandoned by God and asked, “Why?” (v. 9).

And as we read the words of this psalm, we can be assured that we are not alone. We hear a tender voice surrounding us, a voice assuring us that even though we have no answers, even though the waves of pain and despair may still crash over us, still we are dearly loved (v. 8).

And somehow hearing that QUIET SONG of love in the night is enough. Enough for us to quietly cling to glimmers of hope, love, and joy. And enough for us to wait patiently for the day when all our longings will finally be satisfied (vv. 5, 11).

Stay encouraged and be blessed!

Morning Manna: TREASURE IN HEAVEN
Matthew 6:19–21

Most earthly possessions can easily be destroyed by insects or rust, or can even be stolen. Matthew 6 encourages us to place a special focus—not on things that have a limited lifespan but on those that have eternal value. When my mom died last year, she had not accumulated a lot of earthly possessions, but I like to think about the treasure she stored up in heaven (vv. 19–20).

I recall how much she loved God and served Him in quiet ways: caring faithfully for her family, ushering at her church, even feeding a homeless man she found searching our trash for food.

And she prayed. . . . Even after she lost her sight in one eye and became confined to a bed, she continued to love and pray for others.

We have been talking in Bible study about these “treasures” we are storing up in heaven by serving and following Jesus. And our real treasure isn’t measured in what we accumulate—but in what or whom we invest our time and our passions.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21

Be blessed and stay safe!

Morning Manna: Peaceful Perseverance, Psalm 3.
As we continue to trust God through this pandemic, through struggles, through trials and through tribulations, even the simplest setback can feel like a fierce attack from the enemy.

It is during these times, when our strength wanes and immediate relief evades us, that running and hiding may seem like a good idea. But since we cannot escape pain, change circumstances, or ignore emotions, we just rely on God to carry us through.

It is at these times when we should prayerfully read through the psalms for encouragement. In one of my favorite psalms, King David flees from Absalom, his son who wanted to kill him and take his kingdom. Though David lamented his painful situation (Psalm 3:1–2), he trusted God’s protection and expected Him to answer his prayers (vv. 3–4). The king didn’t lose sleep worrying or fearing what could happen, because he trusted God to sustain and save him (vv. 5–8).

So, as we enter the first few phases of the reopening of our state, let us persevere with grace not guns; persevere with prayer not protest; persevere with diligence not desperation and let us persevere with faith not fear. As we trust God to move forward let us persevere with peace.

God bless you!

Morning Manna: today's topic is WAITING WITH ANTICIPATION. The psalmist writes in Psalm 130:6, "I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning."

We too wait. We wait for answers to prayers or guidance from the Lord. And nowadays, we even wait for an end to our current situation. And although we don’t know the exact time our wait will end, we're learning to wait expectantly.

In Psalm 130 the psalmist writes of being in deep distress facing a situation that feels like the blackest of nights. In the midst of his troubles, he chooses to trust God and stay alert like a guard on duty charged with announcing daybreak. “I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning” (v. 6).

The anticipation of God’s faithfulness breaking through the darkness gives the psalmist hope to endure even in the midst of his suffering. Based on the promises of God found throughout Scripture, that hope allows him to keep waiting even though he has not yet seen the first rays of light.

We may be in the middle of a dark night, but BE ENCOURAGED, the dawn is coming!

Here's one of my favorite songs. I hope you enjoy it...

I learned how to play this on the bass back in the '90's in Germany, when things were really, really rough. It seems as if it's time to bring this one back. ...

Morning Manna: In Psalm 98.The psalmist points out two wonderful reasons to joyfully praise God in song and in attitude: His saving work in our lives and His ongoing faithfulness toward us. In God’s choir, we each have a place to sing of the marvelous things He has done. So, keep on singing!

That's your GOOD NEWS for today...God bless you!
