Memorial Day began in the sacred witness of formerly enslaved African Americans in Charleston, South Carolina in 1865, who gathered to honor Union soldiers with prayers, hymns, and flowers after the Civil War. We give thanks for their courage, faith, and commitment to remembrance and justice.

As United Methodists, we remember all who gave their lives in service to others and recommit ourselves to Christ’s call to love boldly, seek peace, and honor the dignity of every person.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” — John 15:13

This Sunday at Grace Church, we celebrate the close of another wonderful choir season and give thanks for the gift of music that has led us in worship throughout the year. Following worship, everyone is invited to stay for an Ice Cream Social as we celebrate the faithful ministry of our choir and enjoy fellowship together. Grace Church at Annual Conference 2026
Grace Church was blessed to be represented at the 242nd Session of the Peninsula-Delaware Annual Conference under the theme Rooted in Christ: Love Boldly. Lay Delegate Nancy and Pastor Dave joined clergy and laity from across the conference for worship, learning, and celebration. Church member and former staffer Demetrio Beach Kenon served as co-leader for the Memorial Worship Service and as part of the Area Worship Team, alongside former Associate Pastor Rev. Chelsea Spyres. It was a powerful week reminding us that the church is still rooted in hope, called to love boldly, and committed to faithful ministry in the world.
