Today’s message, “Impotent Exits: When Trying to Leave Your Assignment Becomes Unproductive,” reminded us that movement is not always progress, and departure is not always deliverance.
Jonah changed his location, but he could not change his assignment. He paid for transportation away from Nineveh, yet every mile toward Tarshish moved him farther from peace and no closer to freedom.
Sometimes we become exhausted because we are spending our strength maintaining an exit God never authorized. We are pursuing immediate relief when what we truly need is divine release.
But God’s correction is not rejection. Sometimes He interrupts our plans because He loves us too much to allow our temporary emotions, disappointments, or offenses to permanently sabotage our purpose.
If God has not released you, do not finance the escape. Return to the assignment. Surrender your preferences. Let God heal what is happening within you so He can accomplish what He desires through you.
The exit may be impotent because the assignment is still potent.
