No one should feel superfluous where God’s love is spoken of.

A person may come to the church who has long been accustomed to contemptuous looks. He is ashamed of his clothes, does not know the prayers, stands uncertainly at the door. We do not know anything about him yet, but we can already do a simple thing: say hello and help him feel welcome here.

After all, everyone needs someone who will see more in him than mistakes or an unsuccessful past. We ourselves hope for God’s mercy when we come to Him with our shame. This memory helps us to be gentler with those who also find it difficult to start over.

The same is true outside the church. Listen to the person everyone avoids. Thank someone who is usually overlooked for their help. Invite a lonely neighbor to the table. In these actions, our faith becomes clear without long explanations.

May the Lord protect us from the habit of judging people by how beneficial it is to be acquainted with them. For one day, the very person we have ignored may teach us the mercy we have talked about so much.
Amen 🙏🏻
