Temple of Israel Wilmington

Temple of Israel Wilmington At Temple of Israel we strive to provide a meaningful and fulfilling environment for worship, education and social interaction. We are a Reform temple.

We are a congregation that supports a wide range of programs and activities for members of all ages. We want to build a community based on inculsiveness, where everyone is welcome, regardless of age, marital status, sexual orientation, a Jew by choice. At Temple of Israel (TOI) we strive to provide a meaningful and fulfilling environment for worship, education and social interaction, following the

principles and values of Reform Judaism, including commitment to God, Torah and Israel; and to enhance the lives of our congregants and our community. As an inspiring center for Reform Judaism, TOI will provide meaningful experiences, where memories will take root and grow, while honoring the past and building for the future. TOI aims to be a warm, welcoming, multi-generational and inclusive congregation, financially sound, with a committed and growing membership base and religious school. TOI will be the focal point in our community for Reform Jewish worship and education, social interaction and Tikkun Olam.

Yesterday the Membership Committee hosted a potluck dinner for over 61 folks and a special schmooze with Rabbi Schull for guests interested in learning about the Temple. Everyone enjoyed many delicious dinner salads and desserts. New members and our guests met before the dinner for Rabbi Schull to introduce himself. He explained what led him to becoming a Rabbi and talked about events to celebrate our 150th anniversary for the dedication of the Temple building. He facilitated a discussion about how, as Jews, we can navigate the challenges that now face us. In addition to the food, Linda Whittingham won the 50/50 raffle.

Welcome to our new spiritual leader.
Rabbi Ben Shull, a native of Philadelphia PA, was ordained in 1986 by the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. Subsequently, he received his Masters in Social Work from Columbia University in 1987. Rabbi Shull has served congregations up and down the east coast, from Venice Florida to Woodcliff Lake NJ. He also served as the executive director of the University at Albany Hillel working with college students and the Tampa Jewish Family Services.
Rabbi Shull has five children and three grandchildren.
Rabbi Shull is a big fan of Atlantic Coast Conference basketball. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and loves to see his Wahoos take on the teams of the To***co Road. Rabbi Shull also loves to spend time on the beautiful Carolina beaches and in the majestic mountains of North Carolina.
Rabbi Shull is proud to serve as Temple of Israel's rabbi and also is presently serving as a chaplain for Liberty Homecare and Hospice. He considers it a privilege to be leading the congregation during this period of growth and change. The Jewish community faces many challenges locally and globally. Guided by the wisdom of our past, he is confident that together we will build a brighter future in this lovely and historic area of North Carolina.
