Palestinian Nakba Remembrance Day remembers the day that thousands of Palestinians experienced dispossession and became refugees on May 15, 1948. Seventy-eight years later, Palestinian people live under a consistent and systematic process of apartheid and face expulsion from their land. In response to the cries of our Palestinian Christian siblings, we have been calling for peace with justice since 1948. In St. Paul, Minnesota, a group of diverse youths “join hands in a ‘friendship prayer circle’ following their day’s work in industrial plants here and in Minneapolis.” This Religious News Service photo captured a handful of the young adults engaged in a 10-week-long “students-in-industry" program, during which they gained “industrial experience” while also studying, worshipping, and attempting "to find the Christian answer to social and economic problems of our day," aka 1951, when this image was originally published. This May Friendship Day, let us learn from this group—let us clasp hands and raise up our friends; let us always strive to understand the experiences of others; let us work toward our goals together, hand in hand.

When the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) replaced the title of “missionary” with “mission co-worker” decades ago, it signaled a theological shift that had been taking shape since after World War II: The denomination was no longer primarily a sender but a partner. The launch of Global Ecumenical Partnerships (GEP) in 2025 deepened that shift, centering relational accompaniment — a posture of walking with rather than going to — as the defining practice of faithful ministry.
