God’s love is on display through simple things…
Bread, wine and even coffee mugs

Has it been 7 years since you held a real mug? Read on.....

This morning at the Day Center, I was standing by the coffee pot greeting our friends as they walked through the door, warming their hands around a hot cup of coffee.

One friend walked up looking a little lost. I asked, “What are you looking for?”

He said quietly, “A paper cup.”

I pointed to the shelf and said, “We’ve got real mugs right here. Go ahead and use one.”

He stared at them for a moment and said, “Wow… I haven’t held a real mug in at least seven years. That was the last time I lived in a home.”

I told him, “That’s exactly why we have them—so you can grab a mug and stay a while.”

But he still hesitated. I asked, “What’s wrong?”
He didn’t answer, so I gently said, “Are you afraid you might break it?”

He nodded.

I smiled and said, “I don’t care if you break it. I don’t care if you drop it. And I really don’t care if you take it outside and forget to bring it back. What matters is that you feel welcome here. Grab a mug… and stay a while.”

Moments like this remind me why we do what we do. Hospitality, dignity, and reminding our friends that they matter—these simple things change lives.

Early Bread Outreach Ministries is undergoing changes! We will no longer be open on Tuesday and Thursday. Soon, Living Hope ILM will open the Downtown Dropin Center on Tuesdays in addition to the Monday and Wednesday services they already offer. At that time, we will provide a lunch to our friends on the street at the Dropin Center every Tuesday.

Joe at Auto MD just called me on HIS DAY OFF to fill my trunk to overflowing with hams, turkeys, canned goods and other food for our Food Pantry. God bless you, Joe, for your good and generous heart!

Joe at Auto MD usually gives St Peters Early Bread Food Pantry turkeys and all the fixings for Thanksgiving meals. This year he told me he couldn’t do that, but he handed me cash instead. This morning I filled my car trunk with 3 turkeys, 5 hams, 10 packs of hamburger, 15lbs of hotdogs, 5 whole chickens and 5 family packs of chicken thighs and drumsticks. Oh, I also got 40 cans of tuna! Joe, you are an awesome mechanic and a generous neighbor! Our freezers were empty until you intervened!!!
