On Friday, April 24, we were honored to welcome fourteen junior-class students, along with a teacher and two parents from the Delaware Valley Classical School in New Castle, for a meaningful day of service at Riverview Cemetery.

These volunteers took on two important projects that make a real difference in preserving the beauty and safety of our historic grounds.

One group focused on removing invasive English ivy from the bases of trees on the northwest side of the cemetery. While ivy may look picturesque, it can actually harm trees by trapping moisture, weakening bark, and adding weight that makes trees more vulnerable to storm damage. Removing it helps protect the long-term health of these historic trees that define Riverview’s landscape.

Another crew worked hard filling holes throughout the cemetery. This effort is essential in keeping Riverview safe and accessible for visitors and maintenance crews by reducing tripping hazards and preventing further ground erosion.

We are deeply grateful for the time, energy, and care these volunteers gave to Riverview. Their work helps ensure that this special place remains both beautiful and safe for everyone who visits.

Thank you so very much to our volunteers!

We’d like to share a quick update on Riverview Cemetery maintenance following our first grass cutting of the 2026 season. 🌿

At the conclusion of our agreement with the Plummer Center in March, FHRC has partnered with a private vendor to continue caring for our 32-acre grounds. As a small, volunteer-led organization, we’ve planned for 12 grass cuttings in 2026—so grass height may vary, especially during peak growing months.

This approach helps us manage resources responsibly while also supporting pollinators, improving soil health, and reducing emissions and noise pollution.

If you value the preservation of this historic space, please consider supporting our work. Every donation at www.RiverviewCem.com helps us continue caring for the cemetery for future generations.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. 💚

Happy Earth Day. Spring has arrived at Riverview Cemetery. 🌸

The crew is completing the first grass cut of the season, and spring beauty is refreshing the cemetery grounds. Green lawns are stretching out beneath a canopy of vibrant trees, and the brilliant pink blooms are putting on an early show—just a glimpse of the beauty still to come.

There’s something special about this time of year here: a quiet renewal, where careful stewardship meets the natural rhythm of the landscape. Whether you’re visiting loved ones or simply taking in the scenery, we hope you’ll notice the care that goes into keeping Riverview a place of reflection and peace.

Take a walk, enjoy the colors, and welcome spring with us.

Today we extend our sincere thanks to a dedicated team of eight volunteers from Bank of America who generously gave their time and energy to support Riverview Cemetery on Friday morning, 4/17.

In preparation for the first grass cutting of the season next week, these volunteers undertook an extensive cleanup effort across the cemetery grounds and the surrounding perimeter outside the gates. Their hard work resulted in the collection of more than 30 buckets of trash from within the cemetery and along nearby streets, including E. 31st St., E. 33rd St., N. Market St., Todd's Lane, and Eastlawn Ave.

Their efforts not only enhance the appearance of this historic resting place but also demonstrate a strong commitment to community stewardship and respect for those interred here.

We are deeply grateful for their generosity and dedication—thank you to the Bank of America volunteer team for making a meaningful difference.

If your employee, church, community, or student group is interested in volunteering to help with Riverview Cemetery duties, we could certainly use your help. Please reach out to us at [email protected].

🌿 Green Guardians Needed This Saturday! 🌿

Join us on Saturday, April 11 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM for an important community clean-up at Riverview Cemetery as we prepare for the season’s first grass cutting next week.

This is a critical effort, and we need all hands on deck! Together, we’ll be removing trash, clearing fallen branches, and other items.

How you can help:

Bring your garden gloves
Dress for outdoor work
Invite a friend or family member

Every volunteer makes a difference. Whether you can stay for an hour or the whole morning, your time and effort will have a lasting impact.

Let’s come together as a community and show our pride and care for this special place. 💚

👉 We hope to see you there!

Despite the rainy weather, our Green Guardians rolled up their sleeves during Saturday’s cleanup and got a lot done! Holiday arrangements were respectfully removed from gravesites, fallen branches cleared, and litter collected throughout the cemetery. The rain cut our time short, but the impact was anything but small. 💚

Want to lend a hand? Join us for our next Green Guardians Cleanup on Saturday, February 14, from 8:00 a.m. to noon. It’s a great way to give back, enjoy the outdoors, and help care for this historic place.

Cleanups take place on the second Saturday of every month, rain or shine. We’d love to see you there!
