Fathers who serve effectively in their God given role as head of the family where they provide for, protect, and guide their wives and children are ideal models that are essential in the development of our daughters. In 2008 the Bethel AME Church Sons of Allen Men’s Ministry recognized that there was a significant need for positive male role models to serve as a resource and guide in the developme
nt of the girls and young ladies in our community. The logical focus was to start at home with our own daughters by creating a formal event to make our daughter feel special, exemplify our love for them, showcase how they should be valued and how they should value themselves. Thus was the birth of the annual Father Daughter Dinner Dance “An Evening of Elegance”, now in its sixth year. The Father Daughter Dinner Dance is an annual event designed to both illuminate the important positive impact that fathers have on the lives of their daughters as they grow from girls to young ladies to productive women. This event provides an opportunity annually to help strengthen the father daughter bond in families. The Father Daughter Dinner Dance is a valuable social event that exposes daughters to a grand affair which allows them to experience first class treatment and quality time with their father or significant male influence in their lives. Biological fathers, adoptive fathers, uncles, grandfathers, god fathers or stand‐in “fathers” for daughters without fathers can all enjoy an evening of elegance, dance and socialization together and with peers and friends. Fathers, father figures and daughters from local churches, business, schools, government, and community organizations of all cultures come together at the Father Daughter Dance. It is an elegant festive event with good food, entertainment, dancing and camaraderie. It provides an opportunity to reunite with existing friends, make new ones, catch up with associates and mingle with special guests culminating in lasting ties that bring our communities closer.
