On this Feast of Ascension
“Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” “ Acts 1:9-11

Jesus Ascends to Heaven - Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.

“Pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our consciences, but shouts in our pains. It is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”

Q: Since Jesus and His Disciples did not fast prior to receiving the Eucharist on the night the Mystical Feast was instituted, why do we now have to fast before receiving Holy Communion?

A: Jesus Christ Himself directly provides us with the answer as follows:

[Jesus Is Questioned About Fasting]
"Then the disciples of John came to Him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?”

And Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the Bridegroom mourn as long as the Bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the Bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast."
Matthew 9:14-16 (see also Mark 2:19-20; and Luke 5:34-35)

John the Baptist identified Jesus as the Bridegroom (John 3:22-36) - therefore, Jesus is the Bridegroom of the Church

40 “He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. 41 He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. 42 And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.”
Matthew 10:40-42
