All Ages Summer Camp!
Friday, Aug 14th to Sunday, Aug 16th

This year we will have programming for all ages, so our parents can explore on their own, knowing that their children and youth will also be having fun. One of the highlights will be a talent show Saturday evening. Please put this on your calendars now, so we can come together as a community this weekend in August!

Vespers Service
Wednesday, June 10th, 6:30 - 7:00 pm

Please join us for our monthly Vespers services!

The service is based on the Taizé style of worship, featuring candlelight, inspirational music, readings and meditation. We join together in silent meditation, a candle-lighting ritual, and the singing of short chants and rounds. This unique respite from the hectic pace of everyday life offers restoration, and an opportunity to calm our minds and hearts and nourish our spirits.

Come to find peace, silence and fellowship.

Celebration of Rev. Larry's Ministry
Sunday, June 14th, after the service

After the worship service, we will celebrate Rev. Larry's ministry as he prepares for semi-retirement. We will be providing lunch by Pamela's Gourmet, have a craft table to create a scrapbook page, and an opportunity to contribute to Rev. Larry's gift.

ILYA Drive-in/Drop-off Event

Saturday, June 27, back parking lot

The annual Independent Living for Young Adults (ILYA) New Apartment Kits (NAKS) DRIVE-IN/DROP-OFF campaign is up and running!

ILYA is the social action program of the five Delaware UU congregations that supports young adults (ages 18-23) as they age out of foster care. During the month of June, the ILYA team is seeking your help in gathering specific new kitchen, bathroom, and household supplies to fill our laundry baskets (which we call NAKs) to help our young adults set up their first apartment. These young folks usually don't have the support of their families that many of us had when we were outfitting our first home.

We have prepared a Sign-up Genius link that you can use to see what is needed and let us know what you intend to donate. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0944AEA622A1F58-64181563-nakdrive #/

After you make and purchase your selection(s), bring it (them) on Saturday, June 27th, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. to the First Unitarian Church back parking lot, where you will be warmly greeted and your purchases unloaded. No need to get out of your car!

Stop by to see a NAK display in the parish hall after the church service on Sunday, June 21st, and learn about how to donate or volunteer. If you have questions, want to volunteer, or are having difficulty accessing the Sign-up Genius link, contact Francine duPont at: [email protected].

(Photo description: On a card table is a white laundry basket, slightly tilted on one side to show that it containers a variety of household items like a blanket, toilet paper, napkins, cans of soup, etc. On the table are bath and dishtowels. The dishtowels say "Enjoy Life, it's Delicious." There is also a package of a shower curtain and pamphlets about ILYA.)

Bring a flower this Sunday!
June 7, 10:30 a.m.

"Encountering Beauty: A UU Flower Ceremony"

On this Sunday, we will be celebrating The Flower Ceremony (sometimes referred to as Flower Communion) an annual ritual that celebrates beauty, human uniqueness, diversity, and community. The first Flower Ceremony was created in 1923 by Unitarian minister Norbert Čapek of Prague, Czech Republic. We will reflect upon the healing and redeeming quality of our encounters with beauty.

Please bring a flower to add to our vase of flowers when you arrive at church on Sunday. You will be taking a different flower than the one you brought to symbolize the transformation that can occur in a religious community.

Children will join us for the first part of the service to participate in the Flower Ceremony.

Special offering: We will be participating with other congregations in the Wilmington area by having a special offering for the Restoration Fund for the Mother Africa Union Church, which was destroyed by fire. Please plan to give generously.
