Blood Bank of Delmarva has declared a blood emergency as supplies drop to less than a two-day supply overall and under one day for Type O blood, the most critical blood type used in emergency care.

The shortage comes as summer’s “trauma season” begins, when hospitals typically see a rise in serious injuries, including car crashes and other emergencies requiring large volumes of blood.

The emergency follows a 10% decline in blood donations during the spring, leaving collections nearly 400 units short of what is needed to meet hospital demand.

Let us unite our hearts in prayer and entrust to the hands of the Lord those who will be graduating this weekend. May God who began this good work in them carry it through to completion, enabling them to use their talents to the fullest.

Please join us at the 10:30am Mass on Sunday, June 7th as we celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi.

Following the Mass, we will process along our St. Mary Magdalen property to act as a witness to the Eucharistic faith and the gratitude that God is with us and our community.

The Eucharist is both a gift and a calling. As we receive the Body of Christ, we are called to become the Body of Christ in the world. The love we encounter at the altar must shape the way we live, inspiring us to serve the poor, forgive those who have hurt us, and offer ourselves generously for others. The Eucharist strengthens us to live as disciples whose lives reflect the self-giving love of Jesus.
