Our GriefShare grief support group for people dealing with the death of a family member or friend is starting again on Monday, February 9 at 11am. Please bring a brown bag lunch to this meeting. Beverages and light desserts will be provided.

GriefShare is a safe, welcoming place where people understand the difficult emotions of grief. Over 13 weeks, we provide relief and comfort as those grieving learn what to expect during the grief process and how to navigate their personal grief processes.

Please visit griefshare.org to register, or contact the church office for more information.

Today, our country remembers the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. King was an instrumental figure in the civil rights movement. His "Letter from Birmingham Jail" is an eloquent response to the clergy of that city who urged citizens not to participate in demonstrations.

On August 28, 1963, Dr. King gave an emotional and prophetic speech known as "I have a dream." In 1964, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

On April 4, 1968, while in Memphis, Tennessee to support striking sanitation workers, he was shot and killed by a sniper.

Dr. King's voice still rings to us today, calling us to commit to justice for all, regardless of the cost of ourselves. To remember him, we suggest reading his "Letter from Birmingham Jail" as a call to justice and action here and now.

"Gracious God, in every age you have sent people who have given their lives in witness to your love and truth. Inspire us with the memory of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose faithfulness led to the way of the cross, and give us courage to bear full witness with our lives to your Son's victory over sin and death. We pray this in the name of your beloved Son, Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen."
