District Sabbath 2024

What a high Sabbath! This past Saturday, April 13, Bristol and St. Albans joined with Williston to welcome and hear a word from our Northern New England Conference President Elder Gary Blanchard.

It was followed by a wonderful fellowship meal during which Elder Blanchard shared some of the happenings around the Conference, including Camp Meeting, health retreat and training, prayer retreat, and more.

Thank you Elder Blanchard for coming all this way!

On May 21, our Sow and Share Community Garden officially opened for the season!

We had a fantastic opening event. Gardeners had a chance to choose their plots; the Peccas kindly brought their Sicilian donkeys for the kids to enjoy; Justin Fox, a master gardener from UVM Extension, held an insightful lecture on pollinators; we had a delicious meal prepared by members of our garden committee; and so much more!

Thank you to all who helped and who joined us! If you're interested in gardening with us, you can reserve your plot at sowandshare.org.

Last Friday, our beloved Pastor Bruce Wilkinson went to rest in the Lord. He faithfully served the Williston, Bristol, and St. Albans SDA churches and communities for the last decade of his pastoral ministry. Even after retirement he continued to serve the Lord through his involvement in Native American ministries in the Greater New York Conference.

He will be greatly missed, and we trust that we will see him on that great resurrection morning when our Savior Jesus Christ returns.

Pastor Wilkinson's memorial service will be held here at the Williston SDA Church this coming Saturday, April 29 at 5 PM. Parking may be limited. There will be a potluck dinner to follow. A Zoom option has been included below and can also be found on our church website at willistonsda.org. Please note, the password to the Zoom is 7.

They say who you know is more important than what you know. That was certainly the case in David and Saul's time. Saul was a classic nepotist; meanwhile, David shows a radically different form of acceptance—one that points forward to the mission of Jesus.

Take inventory of your relationships; do you have people in your life who you can count on to look out for your best interest? People who are committed to doing the right thing? People who walk closely with God?

In 1 Samuel 18 and 19, we see King Saul plotting the death of his servant David, the future king. But God comes to the rescue. Well, He does so in a subtle way. God works out David's escape from death through three supportive, godly people. Check out who they are in this week's devotional!

If you're like me, you probably heard about the Three Angels' Message, found in Revelation 14, but had difficulty understanding why it was so important. Why is it that God gave us this particular message to preach before Jesus' soon return? How does this relate to the gospel and salvation by faith? What does it mean for us today?

If you've asked those questions and are curious to learn more, check out this week's devotional where we explore the deeper meaning of the first angel's message in Revelation 14:6-7.

Have a happy Sabbath!

We all desire the approval of others. As much as we may not want to care, knowing someone supports us can mean the world. But what if that desire for approval becomes our main motivation for action?

The Bible cautions against it. For one, human opinion is so fickle—have you ever seen a Jordan vs. Lebron debate? But ultimately, it could lead us down the wrong path. Find out more in today’s devotional!

Note: the sunlight produces a harsh glare about three quarters of the way through the video. If your eyes are sensitive to it, please consider listening rather than viewing.

Rocky and David (of biblical fame) are two of the most famous underdog stories of all time. They inspire us that we can overcome any challenge with grit and determination. But is that really the point of David’s duel with Goliath? Is it really a story of an underdog?

I suggest not, and you can find out why in this week’s devotional. You can also check out our past four devotional in our video library.

Why do we choose our friends and partners? Two of my closest friends—they both served as my groomsmen, in fact—became my friends because they once showed me an act of great kindness. And I’ve been friends with them ever since.

The story of the anointing of the second king of Israel is a lesson for us to choose our circles not based on external factors, but on what matters most—the heart.
