Alleluia! He is risen!! Happy Easter!! 🐣

Fun fact/story time: Easter eggs are Catholic! According to legend, Mary Magdalene evangelized by using an egg to signify the tomb. The baby chick cracks the egg open, signaling new life. Since then, other significant individuals such as St. Augustine have copied this example. Many early Christians would also decorate eggs with Christian icons and symbols. Early Eastern Christians and Orthodox have adopted the custom of a decorated red Easter egg because according to the same story, Mary Magdalene was evangelizing to Roman Emperor Tiberius Cesar. The emperor mocked Mary saying that the Resurrection was as realistic as the possibility of her egg turning red. Suddenly, her egg turned red in order to symbolize the Blood of Christ and new life. There are also icons of Mary Magdalene holding a red egg if you look it up! 🥚🔴

Today, in remembrance of the Passion of our Lord, we will have a Eucharistic service at 3pm at both Holy Family and St. Anthony’s. Please remain quiet and respectful (sacred silence) when you enter since this is a solemn occasion and is a continuation of where things have left off on Maundy/Holy Thursday. Again, this is approximately the actual day Jesus gave His life for us, so it’s even more special this year.

This day, please remember to fast (1 full meal and 2 small meals; ages 18-59) and abstain from meat (ages 14 & up).

The Mass of the Lord’s Supper is 7pm at Holy Family and 4:30pm at St. Anthony’s today.

“While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, ‘Take, eat; this is my body’” (Matthew 26:26). 🫓🍷

Spy Wednesday is the day Judas betrayed Jesus. Judas sealed his own fate by accepting the thirty pieces of silver, or Blood Money. 💰

Fun fact:
Wednesday used to be another day of fasting until the 10th century because of this specific day.

There are many names for today: Holy Tuesday, Great Tuesday, and Fig Tuesday. This day of Holy Week tells of the story when Jesus was leaving Bethany and seeing the fig tree he had cursed the previous day for bearing no fruit was suddenly dying. This was a lesson about faith for the disciples and symbolism for spiritual judgement on religious leaders who were outwardly active, but lacked inner spiritual fruit.

This Palm Sunday is a very special one because according to multiple historians, biblical scholars, and astronomers, Palm Sunday was on March 29th, 33AD. This entire Holy Week mirrors what happened 2,000 years ago! As we go through Holy Week this year, challenge yourself to really picture the solemn and eventually joyous events that occurred back then.

“Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” 🌿❤️

Fun fact about Palm Sunday in general:

Did you know that most donkeys have a cross on their back? Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a cross and left carrying a cross! 🫏✝️

“Hosana to the son of David!”
