• Rev. Mr. Jacob John Derry, St. John the Evangelist, Fenton

Beginning *today* Thursday, May 28, and concluding on Friday, June 5, let us all pray an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be each day for the following intentions:
• Day 1: In thanksgiving for our Baptism and sharing in the mission of Christ.
• Day 2: For the grace to discern how God is calling us to know, love, and serve Him.
• Day 3: For the grace to accept our calling generously.
• Day 4: For those currently living a generous single life for the Lord.
• Day 5: For the protection of our vocations from every diabolical attack.
• Day 6: For the gift of holy marriages and families, the wellspring of vocations.
• Day 7: For an abundance of ordained clergy to bring us the Sacraments.
• Day 8: For the gift of religious sisters and brothers to serve the Church.
• Day 9: For all in consecrated life (including third orders) who pray for us.

Let us pray:
Hear us, we beseech you, Lord, our God, and pour out on these your servants the blessing of the Holy Spirit, that these men, who are to be consecrated to your service, may be surrounded by your rich and unfailing grace. Through Christ our Lord. Amen!

Yesterday Pope Leo XIV released his first encyclical, Magnifica humanitas, on safeguarding the human person in the time of artificial intelligence.

The Holy Father writes on the inviolable dignity of every person, the call to remain profoundly human in an era of rapid technological change, and the moral imperative for technology to serve peace and the common good.

Read the full encyclical and prayerfully consider its teaching for our time: https://www.vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/en/encyclicals/documents/20260515-magnifica-humanitas.html

At Pentecost, Mary became the Mother of the Church as it was born through a second "overshadowing" of the Holy Spirit. Through her intercession and motherly example, may we respond as she did to the Holy Spirit: May it be done unto me according to your word. 🙏🔥

Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us.

A Prayer for Memorial Day
God of power and mercy, you destroy war and put down earthly pride.
Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears,
that we may all deserve to be called your sons and daughters.
Keep in your mercy those men and women
who have died in the cause of freedom
and bring them safely into your kingdom of justice and peace.
We ask this though Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Happy Pentecost! Come, Holy Spirit! 🙏🔥🕊

Today is the feast of St. Rita. She is patroness of lost and impossible causes, sickness, wounds, mothers, difficult marriages, abuse, and feuds. Her life was filled with painful difficulties in all of these areas and more. Her witness of faith and miracles can renew our own hope and perseverance in faith.

St. Rita, pray for us.

Saint Rita of Cascia, Religious, pray for us!

“Paraclete.” That’s a word Jesus used to describe the Holy Spirit. What a strange word it is! What does it even mean, exactly?

It’s sometimes translated as “advocate.” Other times as “helper.” Other times as “comforter. And finally “counselor” or “advisor.”

So…which is it? Answer: All of the above!

‣ An advocate is a legal defense who pleads your case and defends your freedom. When the voice of the accuser (which Revelation calls the devil) rises up to condemn you and make you feel worthless, it’s time to call upon the Advocate and listen to Him. He challenges you and convicts you, but His voice is always, only, setting you free and saving you from chains.

‣ A helper describes a general assistant. We could all use one! Think of Batman’s butler, Alfred. Alfred was always predicting Batman’s needs. He’s at his home. In the cave. Wherever the hero is, there’s Alfred. In fact, Batman wouldn’t have gotten far without him.

‣ A comforter picks you up when you’re down. He’s there in your grief or distress. He’s never running from your darkest moments. He even loves you when you’re not yourself.

‣ A counselor is that trusted voice telling you which way you should go.
It could be that the transliteration, Paraclete, is the best way to go because no one English word exists that captures it all!
So, here’s the question: do you lean on the Holy Spirit to be all those things for you? If you’re a Christian, you should. You’re not on your own, you know.

“I will ask the Father, and he will give you another [Paraclete]…I will not leave you orphans” (John 14:16, 18).

Come, Holy Spirit, help me to trust in you for everything.
