BRIEF HISTORY:
This community, and the church, was once known a
s Springfield Furnace. The congregation is the outgrowth of a Sunday School held in a small house beginning in 1825. In 1836 the Sunday School moved to a school house that stood on the triangular piece of ground opposite the present church building. The congregation erected its own place of worship in 1872. In 1978 a fire destroyed the interior of the building, and the necessary repairs resulted in a more modern sanctuary. In the late 1980’s, a new basement was dug under the church and a kitchen area, rest rooms and social hall were built. MINES UNITED METHODIST CHURCH:

BRIEF HISTORY:
The first Methodist Episcopal church building at Mines was built and dedicated in 1882. In 1930, a kerosene lamp ignited a fire that destroyed both the building and its contents. The present structure was erected on the same site in 1931.
