Community of Faith Mission - COFM

Community of Faith Mission - COFM Emergency shelter program serving those experiencing homelessness during
the coldest months. A bag lunch is provided for each guest as well.

Our Mission:
Community of Faith Mission is a faith-based emergency shelter program that serves those experiencing homelessness in the Greater Williamsburg community during the coldest months of the year. Who We Are
Established in 2012, COFM is an emergency shelter program serving those experiencing homelessness in the greater Williamsburg area (City of Williamsburg, James City County and upper Yor

k County) during the coldest months of the year. The continued success of the program is due to the collaboration and support of local faith-based congregations, several community and business partners, and hundreds of volunteers offering help and hope to the area’s most vulnerable citizens. Collaboration with local religious congregations, police departments, municipal social services and charitable organizations helps those affected by homelessness become aware of the shelter and its services. Governed by a passionate Board of Directors and managed by an Executive Director and Shelter Managers, COFM is a 501(c)(3) organization serving as a bridge between living unsheltered and finding permanent housing. What We Do
COFM provides shelter and three meals a day to guests experiencing homelessness during the colder months of the year. Admission to the shelter is easily accessible to those who need our support with few barriers to become a guest. Shelter is provided in the buildings of local religious congregations for a week at a time for 12 – 18 weeks depending on site availability. Guests are served dinner and breakfast in a community setting to provide fellowship and connection. COFM keeps paid staff positions to the minimum necessary to provide a safe and secure shelter experience for the guests. The use of volunteers to run the shelter and coordinate meals keeps costs down and provides contact between the guests and the volunteers. Personal toiletries are provided to all the guests. When available, COFM coordinates bringing in outside services that will help the health and well-being of our guests.

Last week we partnered with the amazing volunteers from St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, Lion’s Club, Temple Beth-El of Williamsburg, and Williamsburg Baptist Church. The volunteers gave us their time, make sure meals were provided and assisted COFM staff manning the shelter. Thank you!
