Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe
Leer: Zac 2, 14-17 Lc 1, 39-48 LH Prop

¿No estás bajo mi sombra y resguardo?

St. Bridget of Sweden
Read: Ex 16: 1-5, 9-15 Mt 13: 1-9

“I will now rain down bread from heaven for you. Each day, the people are to go out and gather their daily portion; thus, I will test them to see whether they follow my instructions or not. On the sixth day, however, when they prepare what they bring in, let it be twice as much as they gather on the other days.” (Ex. 16:4-5)

Manna, the miraculous bread from Heaven, was the food that the Israelites ate during their sojourn in the desert, and was a foreshadowing and anticipation of the Holy Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, which we were given by the Lord for our sojourn in the desert.
Jesus Himself made note of the analogy: “According to Scripture, ‘He gave them bread from the heavens to eat.’” Jesus said to them: “I solemnly assure you, it was not Moses who gave you bread from the heavens; it is my Father who gives you the real heavenly bread. God’s bread comes down from heaven and gives life to the world... I myself am the bread of life.” (Jn. 6:30-35)
“Instead of this, you nourished your people with food of angels and furnished them bread from heaven.” (Wis. 16:20)
We worry about the food that sustains our earthly life. Are we as worried about obtaining the food that gives life eternal?

Reflection and commentary
Psalm 78:23-25 “God rained manna upon them for food; bread from heaven he gave them... food he sent in abundance.”

St. Bridget, d. 1373. Upon the death of her husband and the growth of her children, Bridget founded the monastic order, profoundly inspired by visions. Patroness of failures and Sweden.

St. Lawrence of Brindisi
Read: Ex 14: 5-18 Mt 12: 38-42

“An evil and unfaithful age is eager for a sign! No sign will be given it but that of the prophet Jonah. Just as Jonah spent three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so will the Son of Man spend three days and three nights in the bowels of the earth.” (Mt. 12:38-39)

Amazingly, someone makes wayward claims against the Church or some speculative “teaching,” and instantly the person gains a following on YouTube. They continue with their misguided ideas, start a blog, and become bad influencers! Keep those “likes” flowing and monetize their site!
“Be on guard, let no one mislead you. Many will come attempting to impersonate me. ‘I am the Messiah!’ they will claim, and they will deceive many.” (Mt.24:4-6)
The Magisterium (the teaching authority of the Church) is often widely ignored, or worse, ridiculed by some who claim to be “Catholic.”
“False prophets will rise in great numbers to mislead many. The man who holds out to the end is the one who will see salvation.” (Mt. 24:11-14)
Jesus made it very clear that the only true sign that we will be given is the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of the Son of Man. No other sign, twisting of doctrines, fancy words, nor works will ever take the place of the truth: Jesus Christ as He comes to us in the Gospels presented by our Holy Mother, the Church.

Reflection and commentary
Psalm 62:6 “He only is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold.”

St. Lawrence, d. 1619; Capuchin, linguist, military chaplain, diplomat, and minister general; learned exegete, forceful preacher, and controversialist.
