Do you speak Jesus?
Even as Christians, sometimes it can be hard to "speak Jesus".
Jesus spoke with love, patients and kindness.
📖 1st Corinthians 13:4-7 (love is patient and kind)
📖 Romans 13:10 (love does no wrong)
📖 Colossians 3:14 (Love unites)
Scripture encourages words that are gracious and uplifting. Colossians 4:6 advises, "Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone" Proverbs 16:24 notes, "Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones," highlighting the power of kind speech to encourage and comfort others.
Ephesians 4:29 instructs, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs”. Similarly, believers are urged to "encourage one another and build one another up" (1 Thessalonians 5:11), demonstrating that speech should serve to strengthen relationships and support spiritual growth.
The Bible teaches that gentle words can prevent conflict and promote peace. Proverbs 15:1 states, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger". James 1:19 advises, "Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry," emphasizing patience and careful listening before responding.
Believers are warned against corrupting or reckless words. Proverbs 12:18 says, "The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing". Speech that comes from a heart of malice or selfishness can defile a person, whereas words rooted in love and truth reflect God’s spirit.
In essence, the Bible calls us to communicate in ways that are truthful, gentle, gracious, and encouraging, always mindful of the impact our words have on others. By speaking with integrity, patience, and love, we reflect God’s character and foster unity, understanding, and healing in our relationships.
