Pastor Mark's Connection Corner (6/6/2026):

Dear Church Family and Friends,
As a believer in Jesus Christ there may be no more important or more neglected responsibility than sharing our faith. The famous English preacher Charles Spurgeon once said, "I would sooner bring one sinner to Jesus Christ than unravel all the mysteries of the divine Word, for salvation is the one thing we are to live for." As followers of Christ, we have been granted both the great privilege and grave responsibility to represent Him and share the gospel message with our world. And yet, sadly, statistics show that very few believers actively participate in personal evangelism today.

Only about one in ten churchgoers average at least one evangelistic-based conversation a month while up to 61% of Christians have not even shared their faith or invited someone to church in a six-month period. In addition, only about 64% believe evangelism is a personal responsibility as compared to 89% in 1993. Many believers have come to believe that evangelism is the responsibility of the church or missionaries and not the individual. Since most Christians have abdicated this vital responsibility, our world has become progressively more godless and hostile.

As Christ Himself declared, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few" (Mt. 9:37). Today many people are searching for answers and are open to religious conversations and yet few believers seize these opportunities. While there may be a host of reasons why we do not share our faith, fear (30%), not feeling equipped (10%), and the perception that others aren't interested (9%) rank as some of the highest. Within today's highly sensitive and more progressive culture, many believers fear they will be rejected and canceled for sharing their beliefs and opinions.

There is a crisis among Christ's church today. Personal evangelism is a dying activity among God's people. There is an urgency for a renewed commitment to reach the lost. The spiritual battle for the souls of men, women and children is raging around us and few believers seem concerned. We must begin to search our own hearts and pray that the Lord might reignite our concern and interest in this vital area of need. We must ask God to burden our souls for those who are lost and perishing all around us!

When the early church met strong resistance in proclaiming Christ, they gathered to pray. Their prayers, however, were not directed toward deliverance or relief from their persecutors but amazingly were for greater boldness. They prayed, "And now, Lord, take note of their threats, and grant that Your bond-servants may speak Your word with all confidence" (Acts 4:29). The Greek word translated "confidence" here is the word parrhesia, which conveys the ideas of "frankness," "openness," and even that of "boldness". This boldness is exactly what we need to be asking the Lord to instill in us as we seek to interact with and lead others to Christ.

Paul had to remind the younger and more fearful Timothy that God "has not given us a spirit of timidity (or fear), but of power and love and discipline" (II Tim. 1:7). In response to this great truth, he further exhorted Timothy by warning, "Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or me His prisoner..." (II Tim. 1:8a). Fear and our lack of faith in the power of the Holy Spirit have driven many Christians into a sense of shame and apology for their faith and the person of Jesus Christ.

Ironically, we have become more concerned about how others view us than our need to obey Christ and share our faith. As Paul commands, "Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity" (Col. 4:5). We must be prepared to share our faith with those the Lord places around us. We must be wise in our conduct and words, both visibly and verbally sharing Christ. This is a "show and tell" process that involves intentional prayer and sensitivity to the Lord's leading in our lives to recognize those unique opportunities and people He will lay before us.

As we prepare to celebrate our annual "Missions Sunday" this week, I want to encourage everyone to carefully pray and consider their personal responsibility with regard to evangelism. I want us all to begin to ask the Lord to reignite our burden for the lost and give us greater boldness and excitement in sharing Jesus Christ with others. I also want to personally challenge each of you to consider sharing your personal testimony with each of us at LHBC. This is a great way to reestablish your commitment to learning how to become bolder and more effective in sharing the difference Christ has made in your life. If anyone is interested, please feel free to contact me.

In closing, it is crucial that we accept our personal responsibility for sharing Christ. God has called us to be both His "witnesses" and "ambassadors." He has likewise said we are to be His "light" and "salt" before the world. He has also commanded us to "be prepared to share the hope that lies within us." None of us should neglect this great privilege and responsibility! May the Lord help each of us to faithfully fulfill this great calling.

Thank you again for your service and God bless!

Your servant in Christ,
Pastor Mark

Pastor Mark's Connection Corner (5/16/2026):

Dear Church Family and Friends,
As we enter further into the spring season, we can begin to see the vivid colors and fragrances of the new life that has begun to bloom all around us. The changing seasons teach us much about our God and the wonders of His miraculous works. After a long and harsh winter, the Lord renews His creation and brings new and breathtaking sights, sounds, and smells! This seasonal process is a beautiful reminder of how our God often works in our lives.

The winter season of disappointments, frustrations, and failures of life can often make us discouraged and even doubtful at times. Does God really care and can the Lord somehow make sense and purpose out of my pain and disillusionment? Thankfully, like the spring rains and emergence of new life, God can miraculously transform our situations and life. Paul reminds us of this vital truth in Romans 4:17 when he says, "in the presence of Him whom he believed, even God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist."

This key verse refers to Abraham and the amazing faith he exhibited in God to fulfill His promise of blessing him and Sarah with a child. Our God can bring to life that which is dead. He did this to both of the bodies of Abraham and Sarah when he enabled them to conceive a child despite their advanced years. As the author of Hebrews tells us, "Therefore there was born even of one man, and him as good as dead at that, as many descendants as the stars of heaven in number..." (Heb. 11:12). As the very author of life, our God has the power to inject resurrection power and life into any failing circumstance in your life.

We serve an awesome God who specializes in taking humanly impossible situations and turning them around for His glory and our good! As risen Savior and Lord, Jesus can take broken dreams and resurrect them. He can take dashed hopes, withered vision, and dried-up callings and restore them to life again. That which seems hopeless, impossible, and beyond repair is all within the resurrection power of our God!

Just as God used Ezekiel to instill breath and life into the dead and dried bones that filled a valley, so can God bring His Spirit and renewal to the insurmountable circumstances that often appear to overtake our lives (Ezek. 37:1-10). Ironically, it was from those very dead bones that God raised and created "an exceedingly great army" (Ezek. 37:10). Our Great God can miraculously reverse impossible situations into victorious opportunities to glorify and honor Him. He can take that which seems dead and useless and spiritually resuscitate it into a living and powerful expression of His power and grace.

When Joseph was sold into slavery by his own brothers, the dream that God had given him concerning his future exaltation and service had no doubt become shattered. But out of 17 grueling years of injustice and deep hardship, Joseph's God-given dream was finally fulfilled (Gen. 50:18-20). God had taken a broken dream and supernaturally made it come to life again years later. Joseph's life reminds us of how God can resurrect our dashed dreams and disappointments and turn them into wonderful displays of His power and faithfulness.

When the Lord finally fulfilled His promise to Sarah for a child 25 years later, we are told that Sarah "considered Him faithful who had promised" (Heb. 11:11b). As we reflect over the first 20 years of LHBC's history, we too should consider our great God and His faithfulness. Despite the many challenges and difficulties, we have encountered as a church, the Lord has remained faithful to His promise to meet our every need! In many cases, He has likewise miraculously brought that which seemed dead and impossible to life! Like Paul we can boldly declare, "Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass" (I Thess. 5:24).

In closing then, is it possible that we have begun to lose hope and question God's presence and power over the circumstances of our life and church? Have we begun to question or doubt God's promises for our lives? If we have, then it is vital that we reaffirm the resurrection power of our God and its active presence in our lives. Like Paul, we must pray that we might come to more fully "know Him and the power of His resurrection" (Phil. 3:10). May today be the day that we rediscover our new resurrected life in Jesus Christ and take hold of the unlimited promises and dreams God lays before us!

Thank you and God bless!

Pastor Mark's Connection Corner (5/2/2026):

Dear Church Family and Friends,
This Thursday May 7th will mark the 75th observance of the National Day of Prayer. LHBC will be celebrating this special event this Sunday. The NDOP is a day when all believers throughout our great country are exhorted to pray for our nation. This year's theme is "Glorify God Among the Nations, Seeking Him in All Generations" and is based on I Chron. 16:24 which states, "Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples." The NDOP is a great opportunity to unite with millions of other believers to intercede on behalf of our nation and seek God's forgiveness and healing over our land. I want to take this opportunity to invite each of you to join us this Sunday and to dedicate this coming week as a time to pray for our nation.

Although there are many areas we can pray for within our nation, I would like to challenge each of us to pray over three primary areas. First, we need to pray for our governmental leaders. Paul commands us to pray "for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity" (I Tim. 2:2). This includes our President, his cabinet, Congress and all other local authorities. We are specifically told to pray that these leaders would not restrict our religious freedoms and permit us to live out our faith without opposition. Recent governmental legislation has begun to single out Christian beliefs and even in some cases attempt to falsely label and prosecute other believers. Even though we are commanded to submit to all governmental authorities, recognizing them as from God (Rom. 13:1-2), we must still pray that they may not hinder our right to worship and proclaim Jesus Christ freely (Acts 4:18-20). Other issues concerning abortion, transgenderism, homosexuality, corruption, the war in Iran and bipartisanship are all crucial issues we must also commit to prayer.

Secondly, we need to pray for our schools and families. As we all know, our public schools have become inundated with woke ideology that promotes the growing movements of transgenderism, anti-American sentiment and general lawlessness. Once a safe and godly environment, our schools have now become war zones filled with violence, disrespect and rebellion. We need to both pray for and challenge this present philosophy and the school boards that are promoting this godless thinking. In addition, we need to pray for the family unit that is quickly disintegrating from within this godless culture. Divorce rates continue to soar at alarming rates as selfishness and immorality ravage many marriages today. Broken families continue to break the very fabric of our society and create a huge vacuum in the hearts and souls of children.

Thirdly and lastly, we need to pray for our churches. As the Bible forewarns, many churches have compromised the truth of God's Word and fallen to the ever-increasing spirit of apostasy. Not only has God been removed from our schools, but He has also been removed from our churches. The church has exchanged God's Word for a popular form of emotionalism and sentimentality. Instead of exposing man's sin and calling for a life of true holiness and repentance, the church has embraced its culture and created a new and false spirituality that excludes Christ. In many cases, the church has even thrown Christ out of His church and enthroned man as Lord. This tragic reality is portrayed in the church of Laodicea where Christ knocks for re-entrance (Rev. 3:20). In some cases, churches have even adorned their very steps and doors with the colors of the rainbow to proudly declare their allegiance and support of the LGBTQ community!

Despite this disturbing picture of our present government, schools and churches, there have been recent signs of spiritual revival. Since the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk there have been indications of spiritual revival among the younger generation of Christian believers. Oftentimes it is persecution that God uses to awaken His church. Movements of prayer have also been a key component in many church revival movements. This is why the church needs to recapture a spirit of brokenness, repentance and prayer for spiritual revival and lasting change to take place. It is not until we come to the end of ourselves and cry out to God for forgiveness and mercy that we will see God's hand of healing and transformation overtake our country!

Will you join us this coming week as we seek God's healing touch on our nation through humble prayer? May God move His people to become mighty prayer warriors who bring the needed change and transformation to our nation.

Thank you and God bless!

SPECIAL NOTE: OUR 8:00AM 'SON-RISE' RESURRECTION SUNDAY GATHERING WILL BE HELD IN THE SANCTURY, DUE TO THE FORECASTED AM SHOWERS......

Dear Church Family and Friends,
It is by far my favorite holiday. No other day expresses God's love and the gift of His salvation more fully than Easter! Although it is often overshadowed by Christmas and all of its festive traditions, Easter reminds us of God's ultimate design for mankind. God came into the world through His Son not only to reveal Himself to us, but to redeem us! This plan was to reverse the curse of sin and death and provide a way for each of us to fellowship with and enjoy Him forever! What an amazing gift!

For many Easter is nothing more than festivities filled with Easter bunnies, Easter eggs, Easter dresses and family gatherings. For the believer in Christ, however, Easter is so much more! The symbols of the lamb, the cross and the open tomb are beautiful pictures from the Scriptures that express the deep purpose and meaning of God's redemptive story through the Gospel message of Jesus Christ and the payment for man's sin.

The symbol of a lamb reminds us of God's Law and its requirement for the just payment for man's sin. The sacrificial lamb was a type of Jesus and helped prefigure how He would come to earth as the "Lamb of God" to take away the sin of the world (Jn. 1:29). Ironically, the very Son of God as our Great Shepherd, would become like us, and humbly offer Himself in our place upon a cross for our sin! This sacrificial lamb, however, could have no defect and likewise pointed to the sinless nature of Jesus Christ (Heb. 4:15). As Isaiah prophesied 700 years earlier, "All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; but the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him" (Isa. 53:6). In fact, the whole redemption story of God presented in the Bible can be beautifully illustrated in the three biblical statements, "Where is the lamb?"(Gen. 22:7), "Behold, the lamb" (Jn.1:29), and "Worthy is the Lamb" (Rev. 5:12). From Isaac's question to his father Abraham to John the Baptist's bold declaration, to the angelic host's proclamation of worship, we can see the complete story of God's redemptive plan vividly displayed.

The symbol of the cross in many ways is a paradox. The ancient Roman symbol of the cross was both barbaric and despised. Death by crucifixion was reserved for only the most despicable. In fact, no Roman citizen could be crucified. It was reserved for only traitors and murderers. Christ Himself took the middle cross that had been intended for Barabbas, the hardened murderer (Mk. 15:7; Lk. 23:19). This event pictured Christ's substitutionary death for each of us, who were likewise worthy of death (II Cor. 5:21). Crucifixion, which the Romans perfected, was intended to both humiliate and torture its victims. It was a public and dehumanizing ex*****on intended to intimidate anyone from attempting to rebel against Roman authority. In fact, some have made comparisons of the cross with the modern-day electric chair or gas chamber. And yet, paradoxically, for the believer, the cross has become a stirring picture of God's love and holiness and man's triumph in Christ over sin. Ironically, for the believer in Christ, the shameful symbol of a cross has now been transformed into the single greatest emblem to rejoice and boast in. Paul declared this very truth when he stated, "But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world" (Gal. 6:14).

The symbol of the empty tomb is also a powerful picture for the believer in Christ. It is the resurrection of Jesus Christ that sets Christianity apart from all other religions. No other religion can claim such a feat! Every other religious founder in human history has succumbed to death, except Jesus Christ. The empty tomb authenticates Christ's claim as the Son of God and demonstrates the unlimited power all believers share through their risen Lord. It likewise assures them of their own future resurrection. As Paul declared, "But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive" (I Cor. 15:20-23). Just as we share in Christ's death to sin, we will also someday share in Christ's resurrection! This is the "blessed" and "living" hope we now possess in our risen Lord by faith (I Pet. 1:3; Titus 2:13).

In closing, I want to take this opportunity to wish each of you a very blessed resurrection day. It is my prayer that you and your family will be able to fully appreciate and celebrate what we possess in the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. Thankfully, we all serve a risen Savior who has conquered our greatest enemies of sin, Satan and death and is now alive to guide, empower and use us for His glory! May each of you enjoy the blessings and beautiful symbols of the Easter message found in our wonderful Savior and coming King!

Thank you again, and God bless!

03/21/2026

Pastor Mark's Connection Corner (3/21/2026):

Dear Church Family and Friends,

As the war continues in Iran and throughout the Middle East, we see the Lord granting special success to our American and Israeli troops. Despite lingering issues in the Strait of Hormuz, almost all of Iran’s ballistic missiles and drones have been destroyed. Many even believe that Iran’s Supreme Leader’s son, Mojtaba Khamenei, has been either severely injured or killed. Now the free world waits in hope that the Iranian people will rise up, retake their nation, and establish a free and democratic society.

Many questions and concerns, however, still remain with Operation Epic Fury: Will America become immersed in a protracted war? Will the Iranian people retake control of their nation? Will other Arab nations and the United Nations support the U.S.’s efforts to destroy Iran’s ability to continue terrorizing the world? And will the U.S. government and American people continue to politicize and divide our nation over this military action? These are all key questions we should pray over as we acknowledge God’s sovereign control and seek His perfect will.

Amid all these actions and questions, however, I believe there are a number of important spiritual principles we can learn. As a military enthusiast, I believe there are several successful military strategies our country has employed that parallel our own spiritual warfare with our Enemy. For instance, in our recent attacks on Iran, our powerful Air Force and highly skilled pilots have been able to knock out Iran’s communication systems. This has made it difficult, if not virtually impossible, for Iranian troops to communicate with one another. Without the ability to communicate, they have been unable to coordinate their efforts, work together, and adequately warn one another. This is exactly what Satan attempts to do in our own spiritual warfare. Once we fail to pray and communicate with our Commander in Chief, we immediately lose our ultimate source of direction and power. This is exactly what Satan did with Peter the night he betrayed Christ. Peter, in his own pride and complacency, had failed to heed Christ’s warning and pray in the Garden of Gethsemane with Him. He subsequently was sifted by Satan and used by the enemy in an attempt to thwart God’s will.

As I have shared on multiple occasions, I believe the church today has been crucially weakened and hindered by its abandonment of prayer. A prayerless church is a powerless church! In our own spiritual warfare, the Enemy has successfully convinced the church that it does not need prayer. Many believers fail to recognize the indispensable nature of prayer and our communication with our Lord. When we think of the spiritual armor the Lord has supplied us, we often fail to link it to prayer. But after listing the individual pieces of spiritual armor, Paul additionally adds, “With all prayer and petition, pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints...” (Eph. 6:18). In essence, Paul is reminding us that prayer is the final unifying piece of armor that fits all the other pieces into place.

I have always been impressed with the fact that when Christ entered His most severe attack by Satan, He sought to get away to pray. This occurred on the night He was betrayed, when He went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray with His disciples (Mt. 26:36–46). It is crucial that we remember prayer is our greatest resource in spiritual warfare, and we must not be deceived by our enemy into neglecting it!

A second key parallel I find in modern warfare—and in the recent U.S. attacks in Operation Epic Fury—is the strategy to eliminate the opposing forces’ leaders. The U.S. launched its initial attacks by successfully eliminating 46 of Iran’s top leaders when they bombed their group meeting at central headquarters. This was a severe blow to the Iranian army and undoubtedly caused great panic and confusion. This has always been Satan’s strategy as well. The prophet Zechariah prophesied of this strategy on the night of Christ’s arrest and crucifixion when he said, “Strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; and I will turn My hand against the little ones” (Zech. 13:7).

In an effort to divide and ultimately destroy God’s people and church, Satan will target the key leaders of Christ’s church. In fact, we can see this truth illustrated in the hundreds of churches that have faltered in the wake of pastors’ and leaders’ moral failures. This is why every church must cover its spiritual leaders in prayer, seeking God’s protection over His under-shepherds! Tragically, many churches fail to cover their leaders and uphold them in prayer.

As we have seen in our recent study of the seven churches of Revelation, the church of Jesus Christ needs to awaken to the spiritual warfare it is presently facing! Without a concerted commitment to prayer, the church will continue to be susceptible to attack and mired in complacency. I want to personally thank all those who have committed themselves to praying for LHBC. It is your prayers that make some of the biggest impacts on our people and ministries. With this in mind, I want to encourage the rest of our congregation to consider making prayer a greater priority in your lives. I often say that the single greatest thing you can do to help me is pray for me and my family. None of us will ever know how much each of our prayers has impacted and altered one another’s lives!

In closing, may God continue to bless LHBC and our great nation. Thank you!

Pastor Mark's Connection Corner (3/7/2026):

Dear Church Family and Friends:

The images on TV have been surreal. Detailed pictures of missiles exploding Iranian targets have filled our screens as Operation Epic Fury continues to be executed by American and Israeli forces. In an attempt to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, President Trump has boldly undertaken a military operation, in conjunction with Israel, to put an end to Iran’s terroristic attacks and threats to our nation, our allies, and the surrounding world. Despite the great success the Lord has granted our joint forces, many have attempted to politicize this operation. With the loss of six American soldiers and the gravity of this mission, I believe it is vital that we put away our partisan bickering and support our nation and its troops. We all need to pray for the Lord’s continued blessing on our nation and His people, Israel, as we fight the tyranny of evil that fills our world.

It is also crucial that we understand that the physical battle we are presently waging against Iran’s corrupt regime is part of a far greater and more intense spiritual battle that has been waged since the beginning of time. Satan’s original sin was to rebel against God’s sovereign reign and install himself as the “Most High” (Isa. 14:14). Ever since that moment, he has attempted to lead mankind in an all-out rebellion against the Lord and His sovereign authority. He continues to entice world leaders to fight against and oppress God’s people. This was the case with the Roman Empire, which martyred and persecuted millions of Christians, and the German Reich, which exterminated millions of Jews. Paul himself, I believe, alludes to this when he states, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Eph. 6:12). Scripture often presents demonic forces as influencing world leaders and even portrays them as being synonymous with them (Isa. 13–14; Dan. 10:13).

The Old Testament is also filled with numerous examples of “holy wars” that the Lord sanctioned. In these cases, God commanded Israel to attack and destroy pagan nations that opposed Him and His people. The Lord used these wars to judge the surrounding Canaanite nations for their detestable practices of child sacrifice, cult prostitution, and rampant immorality. Although these wars mark a distinct and temporary phase in biblical history before Christ, they still help illustrate God’s desire to stamp out and judge all evil. In fact, we know this is what Christ will accomplish at His second coming, when He will judge all nations and deliver His people, Israel (Rev. 19).

The prophecy of Christ’s return and judgment upon the nations of the earth is powerfully foretold in Psalm 2. This messianic psalm reminds us of the Lord’s absolute power and sovereignty over the world and how He will restore His rightful kingship at His return. Despite the nations’ rebellion and opposition, we are told, “He who sits in the heavens laughs, the Lord scoffs at them. Then He will speak to them in His anger and terrify them in His fury, saying, ‘But as for Me, I have installed My King upon Zion, My holy mountain’” (Ps. 2:4–6).

Amidst mankind’s insurrection, the Lord will return at the end of the tribulation period to judge the nations and reestablish His rightful throne in Jerusalem as the very King of Kings. This will be followed by Christ’s reign for one thousand years, fulfilling His Davidic promise to King David and bringing a time of true peace and prosperity (Rev. 20:1–6; 21:1–9). Thankfully, we are told the ultimate outcome of history, which is moving toward this one grand event. This is part of the “hope of glory” that awaits all true believers in Christ (Titus 2:13; Rom. 8:18–22).

Although many may view the recent events of Operation Epic Fury as unsettling and uncertain, we can thankfully know with certainty from God’s Word the ultimate outcome. The great cosmic battle waging in this world will someday be completed and won by our Sovereign Savior and King. Someday, every knee will bow and acknowledge Jesus as Lord and King (Phil. 2:9–11). All enemies and opposition will be eliminated, and God and His righteousness will prevail. Praise God!

In the meantime, the Lord calls us to patiently wait for His soon return (Phil. 3:20; Titus 2:13; Rev. 22:12). The recent events in Iran should encourage us and remind us of how the Lord is putting into motion the final events that will bring about the Antichrist and final apostasy, which will lead to Christ’s rapture of His Church (1 Thess. 4:13–18; 2 Thess. 2:3–11). Until then, may we continue to pray for the Lord’s protection and blessing over our troops, our nation, and our ally, Israel.

Thank you again, and may the Lord bless each of you!

Your Servant in Christ,
Pastor Mark
