Pastor Lynn Schlosser founded a tradition in our congregation. Starting in January, we began bringing to Sunday services the ingredients of the school kits that Mennonite Central Committee distributes across several continents. They can make the difference in a family's ability to send its children to school. Every school kit, packed in a cloth drawstring bag, has 8 pencils, 4 black or blue ink pens, a plastic ruler, a set of 12 colored pencils, 4 spiral notebooks, a pink eraser, and a metal pencil sharpener. For 8 months, we bring the supplies, and on one Sunday in August or September, we pack the kits. These photos show our most recent effort as we assembled the kits on August 23, 2026, without Pastor Lynn's quiet, efficient, encouraging supervision. We managed! We hope to keep up this teamwork with our sister congregation, Aposento Alto!

WIth sadness and gratitude, Mennonite Church of the Servant has said good-bye to our minister of five years, Pastor Lynn Schlosser. After Pastor Lynn's final Sunday teaching on August 2, 2026, her departure was formalized in a litany of release and sending led by Kathy Neufeld Dunn, Associate Conference Minister of the Western District Conference of Mennonite Church USA.

Our congregation moves forward, guided by our lay leadership -- church council, Shepherds, and worship committee, but we will deeply miss Pastor Lynn's loving and wise care and her brilliant and beautiful teachings. We will miss her husband Todd and adult children, Jonathan and Becca. We know God has new ministries for each of them where their gifts will be abundantly used!

Our beloved founding member of Mennonite Church of the Servant, Tom Mierau, passed away on July 31,2026. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 8, 2026, in our church building, 2401 N Woodland, Wichita, KS, 67204. A light meal — a Russian Mennonite, low German faspa — will be served following the service.

Those unable to attend the service in person are invited to join the live Zoom broadcast. To receive the Zoom link, please email your request to [email protected] before August 8.

A little bubble joy goes a long way to create great memories! Here Gianna and her cousins Hendrix and Greyson watch the glistening magic of soap take shape under their breath. While we don’t have a separate “Sunday school” hour at Mennonite Church of the Servant, we plan creative learning times for our children.
