At this Sunday's 11:00 AM worship service at First UU of Wichita (7202 E 21st St N, Wichita) will be the world premier of a new song Corey wrote for us: "How Are You You? How Are You UU?" He is hoping you can come and bolster up the chorus! Sounds like a good time!

How are you you now?”

“The Giraffe and the Elephant”

Joe Mohr presents “The Giraffe and the Elephant,” built on an old fable about a giraffe who builds a house perfectly suited to long necks and tall frames — until an elephant friend comes to visit and can’t fit through the door. The giraffe must learn to reimagine his house if their friendship is to flourish. Corey Swertfager will sing and play guitar.

While the church is now open for all services and activities regardless of your vaccination status, the Board strongly recommends that all of us be vaccinated and asks that we continue to practice social distancing, when possible, especially when around members and friends who are still opt-ing to wear masks. Online Zoom access is provided for those who can-not attend services or events in person. Zoom information is posted on our website.

Thank you, Alex Johnson from Classical Revolution ICT for sharing her talent with us this morning. The bassoon solo, Concert Study #17 by Ludwig Milde, was beautifully played. Here is a short video of the piece. Also, thank you to Lio for showing me how to post a video on Facebook!

The next Wichita Freethinker Humanist meeting will take place on this evening May 30th at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 7202 E. 21st, Wichita.
Our guest speaker will be Dr. Robert Feleppa, Professor Emeritus from the Department of Philosophy at WSU. His talk, "Buddhism, Humanism, and the Environmental Crisis," will explore whether Buddhist accounts of spiritual alienation and our interconnectedness with nature provide a useful framework for addressing environmental challenges.
Refreshments will begin at 6:30 PM, followed by the presentation at 7:00 PM. Please feel free to bring treats or drinks to share.
As this is the final meeting of the 2025-2026 season, we look forward to wrapping up the year and discussing ideas for our return in the fall.
For those unable to attend in person, the meeting will be available via Zoom:

On Sunday, May 31, enjoy the special music of Alex Johnson, bassonist. She will play Concert Study #17 by Ludwig Milde. Here is a little bit about Alex and her musical talents.

Alex Johnson is a Hutchinson-based musician and arts organizer who performs regularly with orchestras, chamber music, and community-focused classical events across Kansas. Through work with Classical Revolution ICT and other collaborative projects, Alex is passionate about making live classical music approachable, engaging, and connected to local communities. As a bassoonist, she enjoys sharing the unique voice and expressivity of her instrument with an audience often unfamiliar with the bassoon in a solo context.
