From My Email to the church this evening... A Call to Prayer
In light of the tragic events of today, July 13, 2024, I come to you with a heavy heart to ask that we all seek God's comfort, peace, and wisdom for this time. An assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump has left our nation in shock, and the tragic death of an innocent woman who attended the rally has deepened our sorrow. I ask for your prayers for the President and his family, that they may find solace and strength during this difficult time. Let us also lift up the family of the innocent victim, praying that they may be surrounded by God's love and comfort.
Furthermore, we must not forget the family of the shooter, who are undoubtedly facing their own anguish and confusion. May God's grace touch their hearts and bring them peace.
As we reflect on these events, let us remember the words of President Abraham Lincoln, who once said:
"With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation's wounds."
Our nation is in desperate need of healing, and it is through our collective prayers and actions that we can begin to mend the deep divisions that separate us.
I call upon our congregation to pray fervently for peace in our nation. Let us ask God for His mercy to help us heal the deep wounds that divide us. May we be instruments of His peace, bringing hope and reconciliation to our families, to our communities, and to our Nation.
