MorningStar Community Church Great community of people who are going through life together.

No matter where you are on life’s journey, or whether spiritually you are a “skeptic” or “convinced,” we are a community that knows that everyone matters to God! No one should do life alone, and we exist to help people discover a fully devoted relationship with God and one another.

This Sunday we will be looking at the lives of some of Paul’s faithful allies—Priscilla, Aquila, and Apollos. We will see how they gave assistance to Paul and to the community of believers and how God used them to further His kingdom through their gifts and abilities. I hope to see you at 11:00am!

After speaking on Mars Hill in Athens, Paul moved on to Corinth. Portions of what occurred in Corinth are part of a familiar pattern, but Paul’s ministry also underwent a watershed moment in this city. Jesus appeared to Paul in a vision to encourage him; was this necessary because the opposition was so fierce?

We will consider the positive example of Paul, the negative example of Paul’s opponents, the commands of God, and the promises of God in which we can rest. I trust that you will find encouragement and a biblically-informed perspective on life as we study the word of God together. I hope to see you at 11:00am!

Last Sunday, we considered the introduction of Paul’s address on Mars Hill. The Apostle Paul was invited to speak in a thoroughly pagan setting. As we began to see, he handled the opportunity differently that when he spoke in the synagogues.

This Sunday, we will finish Acts 18. In this passage, Paul set forth his defense for the one True God in contrast to the polytheism that was so prevalent in Athens. Since there are many similarities between the intellectual climate of the Athenians and our present culture, Paul’s strategy on Mars Hill is be very instructive and useful to us. Pray that I can make it clear.

We will also be celebrating the Lord’s Table this Sunday, thanking God for the ways He has lavished His love on us to make us His children. I hope to see you at 11:00am!

We learned last week that when Paul’s life was in danger in the city of Berea, he was sent ahead of the rest of the team to Athens. But Paul didn’t just sit around and wait for the others to arrive. He went to the synagogue, as was his custom, and reasoned with the Jews there.

Paul also interacted with the philosophers in Athens and was even invited to speak at the Areopagus. This Sunday we will consider the introduction of Paul’s message on the hill of Ares, or, as it is often called, Mars Hill. We are sure to find a number of truths to ponder and examples to follow. I hope to see you this Sunday at 11:00am!

This Sunday we will learn of Paul and his team moving on from Philippi on their way to Thessalonica and then to Berea. These cities had a large enough Jewish population to have a synagogue, so they reasoned from the Scriptures with the people there. There are some important lessons for us in this passage. I hope to see you at 11:00am!

“Do I search the Scriptures to discover God’s perspective on things so that my priorities can align with His so that God will receive glory in all that I do?” As we study God’s word, we always want to be open to His perspective and to allowing Him to re-align our priorities.

When ended last Sunday with Paul and Silas in the inner cell of the prison with their feet held in the stocks (a form of torture). They were suffering for doing the will of God. But (spoiler alert), God was not finished with them yet; He intervened to change their circumstances. We will see how as we finish Acts 16 this Sunday starting at 11:00am. See you then!

This Sunday we will return to The Acts of the Apostles. We will be considering the conversion of Lydia as recorded in Acts 16. Lydia was a woman who prayed to God and worshiped God but still needed to hear and believe the good news about Jesus.

We will be celebrating the Lord’s Table this Sunday as well. So, as we gather this Sunday, we will share the good news in song, in Scripture, and in symbol. I hope to see you at 11:00am!

This Sunday is Resurrection Sunday! If you’d like to read ahead, the message will be taken from John 20. As the message draws to a conclusion, the confession of Thomas (“My Lord and my God!”) will take center stage. My thoughts are drawn just now to these great lyrics:

“Jesus lives and so shall I: Death, thy sting is gone forever! He shall raise me from the dust: Jesus is my hope and trust.”

He is risen! I hope to see you on Sunday at 11:00am as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ together!

This Sunday, as we continue praying that God would fill us with the knowledge of His will, we will be considering chapters 15-21 of the fifty reasons why Jesus came to die.

As Richard pointed out to us last Sunday, the focus of the life Jesus lived was to die so that we could live abundantly now and eternally forever. Jesus lived in perfect obedience to His Father in heaven so that we could become children of God.

In Christ, we truly have a wonderful Savior; out of the riches of His grace, He has given us more than we could ever fully comprehend. I hope to see you this Sunday at 11:00am!
