Friends,
Heartland Community Church was started with the purpose of being able to worship, serve and glorify God as we also encouraged and built up one another. We intentionally tried to provide ways for us to spend time together and experience what the early church had. Acts 2:42-47 was our desire and model.
“And they were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellows
hip, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. And everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles. And all those who had believed were together, and had all things in common; and they began selling their property and possessions, and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need. And day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.”
Today, we continue to strive to fulfill that goal as we commit ourselves to the Word of God and have the opportunity to get to know each other more. Now is a great time in our history as God has provided us with a new location to continue to fulfill our mission and vision which is: “To glorify God as we disciple His people to share the reality of Jesus with the world.” Brick and mortar is simply a tool and we pray that God will use that new tool to help us fulfill His great commission to go into all the world and make disciples. What an incredible privilege to share in that mission with Almighty God and each other. We are committed to His strategy which is stated in Acts 1:8, “but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
Wichita is our Jerusalem and we have much work to do right here in our own hometown. We commit ourselves anew to reaching out to our neighbors, co-workers, friends and family with the Good News of the Gospel. As we continue to grow here, we desire to plant daughter churches around Wichita, Kansas, the United States and the world. May God give us the grace, strength and desire to pursue that vision. With God’s help, we will continue to build around our core values: To be biblically accurate, personally pure, family centered, evangelistically bold, intentional disciplemakers and socially responsible. We strive to love one another so that as people look at Heartland, they will see that we are fulfilling the promise of Jesus: “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35
God has brought us this far. We are excited to see where He will continue to lead us. With His help we will be faithful to His call, go and make disciples, love one another, glorify God.
