I’m preparing for Sunday with… aloe.

It was a HOT Saturday, but a beautiful morning at Woodland Lakes Community Church. We partnered with Sleeps in Heavenly Peace to build 30 beds that will go to children in need right here in Wichita.

It was an impressive view as I looked across our parking lot and saw so many people at their stations, in the heat, serving the Lord with lumber, power tools and sweat. We also enjoyed delicious meals at breakfast and lunch, and, of course, we always have fun when our church gets together. And remember - a little aloe on those sunburns will help you rest tonight as we prepare for Sunday.

This Sunday we will continue our series in Daniel as we seek to live faithfully in an unfaithful world. I’d recommend reading Daniel chapter 5 ahead of Sunday’s worship service. We’ll get a look into the festivities of a party – a WILD party that takes an unexpected, terrifying turn.

I’ll also talk about a well-known movie starring Heath Ledger that climaxes with a line straight out of Daniel chapter 5.

In the end, we’ll respond by worshipping the One True God and receiving Communion together. After a hot, exhausting, beautiful Saturday, I’m ready for an amazing Sunday!

All are welcome to join me in the Prayer Room at 8:30 a.m. to start the morning with prayer. We’ll have doughnuts and coffee in the café, followed by Sunday School classes at 9 a.m. Our Sunday morning worship service starts at 10:30. See you Sunday!

Kids quizzing is here! This is an amazing opportunity and a fun way to hide God's word in their hearts! Some information about quizzing:

*For kids ages 1st-5th grade. (I think it is technically 6th, but the way we have Sunday school set up, it wouldn't work)
*Practice during Sunday School each week, starting September 6th (Going through the book of Exodus)
*First Quiz meet is Saturday October 3rd at Wichita First Church of the Nazarene.

Good afternoon, church family!

Let’s prepare for Sunday with this question: What is in your insides?

Literally - a bunch of organs, muscles, fat, blood, tissue and… lunch. But that’s not what I’m asking.

What is within you? Jesus reminded us that what comes out of us is often an indication of what we’ve let in.

“But what goes out of the mouth comes from the heart. And that’s what contaminates a person in God’s sight.”
-Matthew 15:18

Our journey through the book of Daniel takes us to chapter 4 this Sunday, where we’ll take a closer look at what’s inside Daniel and what’s inside King Nebuchadnezzar. The result has astonishing implications for both – especially the king, who is physically transformed into what he really is! We’ll go all the way back to Genesis for some context and compare this story to an animated Disney movie (it’s, in fact, my favorite animated movie of all time!).

I’d encourage you to read ahead. Check out Daniel, chapter 4 for the full story so that you’re prepared to dive in and experience the Word of the Lord together when we gather as a church.

Also, this is the fifth Sunday of the month, so we’ll have all the kids with us in the sanctuary (our cry room will be available for the littlest ones, if needed). We’ll have activity packs for all the kids, and they’ll have a special opportunity to help us lead worship!

This Sunday is also the final day for Pastor Nate Boone and his wife, Jessica, as they begin their transition into a new ministry opportunity. We’ll have a Sweet Sendoff in the form of a farewell reception immediately after the morning worship service. Everyone is welcome to join us for one more chance to say goodbye and bless the Boones with cards, gifts, handshakes and hugs.
