This is a family at my church. They’ve been through the wringer already, but this accident on Monday just ramped everything up. It’s going to be a LONG road for recovery and anything can help. Plenty of prayers, too.

This is an important ministry in my new context. We are helping families trying to get by, needing vital assistance for the basics of living. The work of Getting Ahead in Haysville, KS will be helping people to get out of cycles, but this immediate need is important as well. If you’re able to give, please do! Every bit helps! Thanks!

These first 13 days of May have been especially busy for Haysville ❤️ Hope as we’ve continued helping local families with utility assistance for electricity, gas, and water services. Unfortunately, because of increased need and limited funding, we were forced to cap spending this month to help preserve resources for future requests.

If you would like to support Haysville ❤️ Hope and help local families in need, please consider donating using the information provided below. Every dollar stays right here in our community. ❤️

“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you: Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also, and if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, give your coat as well, and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven, for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous.”

Not just what can towns do, start with churches seeking out ways to connect. How can these spaces live in the full lives of their communities? Can we start listening for the needs? FCC Haysville is listening, responding, and we’re open for more connections!

There’s a church just outside downtown.

On Sunday, it’s full. Cars everywhere. Not an empty space in sight.

But come back on Monday, Tuesday or Friday afternoon.

It’s mostly empty.

Acres of parking, sitting there and nothing happening. There’s no places to stop. No reason to linger. Just land that only works for a few hours each week.

And it’s not because people don’t need the parking, they clearly do.

That’s the tension.

We’ve built places that serve one moment really well… and the rest of the time, they go quiet.

So what do you do with land like that?

There’s no perfect answer. But some communities start small:

- Let other groups use the space during the week
- Design it so it can flex between parking and something else
- Look for ways to share instead of duplicating

Not a big overhaul. Just better use of what’s already there.

Once you notice it, you start seeing it everywhere.

What’s a place like this in your town?

This past Sunday, through our Cookies for a Cause outreach, we raised $316 to support the Colts Closet in the Student Support Services Center at Campus High School.

Thanks to this wonderful community partnership, we were able to purchase snacks and food items that students can access when they find themselves in need during the school day.

Thank you to everyone who baked, bought cookies, and helped make this outreach possible. ❤️
