It was with sadness we had to say goodbye to our dear pastor, Christopher Yanker yesterday. His wife, Catherine Tietjen, has been having major health issues and is currently living in St. Louis. She needs him there with her and we understand. God is leading him where his priorities are.
On a wonderful note, our own Blake Craddock was confirmed yesterday. He is such an admirable young man and we are so proud to have him as a member of Trinity.

This Sunday May 21st is the 6th Sunday of Easter. From John 14:15-21, in final words to his disciples on the night of arrest, Jesus encourages obedience to his commandments and speaks of the Spirit, who will be with them forever. Here is some of the message: Say Amen! Say Hallelujah! Say Praise the Lord! What’s up with these strange looks? What is it about the Holy Spirit that makes us squirm in our seats? I mean we all believe in God right? And I probably preach about Jesus 90% of the time, and we like hearing those messages, right? But when it comes to the third person of the Trinity people from the Lutheran tradition aren’t quite certain how to react. We might get uptight, worried, even concerned.
Do we really believe what we recite in the Apostle’s and Nicene Creed were we say, “We believe in the Holy Spirit?” Do we believe the Holy Spirit is intended for us or is it something that resides in those ‘other churches?’ Do we believe the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity—actually God’s self? You see, the Holy Spirit can be so much more than we often allow it to be. We believe, but our disbelief is also present.
In the first lesson of Acts, the writer Luke tells about how Paul goes to Athens Greece. Here he runs into a Greek culture with many gods. He stands in front of the people and says, “Athenians, I see how extremely religious you are in every way. I even found an altar with the inscription, “To an unknown god.”

Sunday May 14th 2017 is the 5th Sunday of Easter. From the gospel of John 14:1-14, on the night when Jesus is arrested, Jesus shares final words with his disciples. As the one through whom God is known, he promises to go before them and act on their behalf. I have the day off on Sunday so Susan Sullivan will bring the message...BUT...if I were here, here is part of the message: Everyone is searching for a home, in actuality it’s the one desire humans have that cannot properly be satisfied on this earth, because this earth is not our home. In a spiritual sense, everyone is like Patch Adams, striving to get home, but the snowstorms of sin blind us and often we find ourselves on the wrong path.
We all are looking for the path home. The good news is that Jesus whispers to our homesick hearts “He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes home [to the Father] except through him.”
The early Christians picked up on Jesus’ words that he was, “the way,” and called themselves, “The Way.” The term focuses more on the concept of path, rather than a direction. The image of a path depicts more that idea of journey, as opposed to destination. Jesus is the path to the Father—to home. Christianity—the walk of faith—is a way of life, or a life style. Contrary to popular belief the goal of Christianity is not to get to heaven, but to live each day in a personal relationship with God.

This Sunday, May 7 2017, is the 4th Sunday of Easter. Sometimes called "Good Shepherd Sunday." From John 10:1-10, Jesus uses an image familiar to the people of his day to make a point about spiritual leadership. Good shepherds bring people to life through Jesus, but those who avoid Jesus are dangerous to the flock. Here is some of the message: What we have today is an honest gut wrenching Lutheran based message saying “What a Thing Really Is,” by using the 23rd Psalm followed by the words of Christ Jesus.
Don’t you wonder sometimes why the world we live in is such a mess? Not only our world, but many of our lives seems to be spiraling out of control. This chaos spills into all arenas even into the church actually causing some to turn away from God. What in the world is going on?
Well folks, I’m going to let you in on a little secret. The cause of all this mess and confusion is simply called people! That’s right! People—human beings trying their hardest—maybe not their hardest—but trying all the less to make things right!
Maybe our intentions are not half bad. Really we just want what Jesus talks about in today’s lesson. We all desire that “Abundant Life.” We all simply want what the shepherd boy David writes about in the 23rd Psalm
