August 1-7 is World Breastfeeding Week. These images of Mary breastfeeding Jesus are paired with Scripture about nursing to help remind us that feeding a child is not something that needs to be hidden away.

This week is also a good time for churches and businesses to remind employees and volunteers that babies can be fed anywhere and to ensure that there are clean and comfortable places for breastfeeding, pumping and bottle feeding.

Did you know that the United States is the only country playing in the World Cup that does not offer paid parental leave? Instead, we depend on FMLA, which varies from state to state, does not cover all workers, and is often unpaid. Some businesses do offer paid leave, but it is often not available to lower-wage workers, contract workers, and many more. Let's work together to show that we care about babies and new parents and advocate for change!

May 28 is Menstrual Hygiene Day, an annual day of awareness about menstrual hygiene worldwide. Today is a good day to remember that Jesus healed a woman who had been bleeding (menstruating) for twelve years. By healing her, Jesus helped her return to full participation in her community. Likewise, churches and church events should provide menstrual products to ensure that people with periods are able to fully participate in worship, studies, fellowship and community.

Summer is just around the corner. Are you wondering if you will have a beach body, a swim suit body, or a summer body? Fear not! If you have a body on the beach, it's a beach body! If you have a body in a swim suit, it's a swim suit body! And if you have a body, and it's summer, you have a summer body! Our bodies can help us do the things we want to do this summer. Let's celebrate them instead of punish them.
