“Being Accountable”

Matthew 18:15-20

This week we begin a sermon series “All in the Family.” This series will explore what it means to be the church – the family of God – together. Our church family is similar in many ways to our actual family. But there are also places where they are very different. This series will explore the family dynamics of being the church. One thing that our personal family’s and our church family have is being accountable to one another. Families are defined by covenant relationship where we are mutually beholden to one another for the good of all. Sometimes that means we have to keep hold another accountable. Join us this Sunday as we learn what it means when we are “Being Accountable”

Exodus 3:1-15, Matthew 16:21-28 NRSV
Pastor Mala Williams

When God calls, how do we move from resistance to acceptance? Like a child who needs time to accept something uncomfortable, we may respond to God with excuses, doubts, or simply, “I don’t want to.” Yet the stories of Moses and Peter remind us that God meets us in that resistance and continues calling us forward. Worship becomes a place where we can honestly acknowledge our reluctance. We do not have to answer God’s call alone; through the Holy Spirit and the community of faith, we can move together from “I don’t want to” toward “Yes, God, I will.”

“Listen to Me”

Isaiah 51:1-6

This week we continue our sermon series “The Words of the Prophets.” When the exiles prepared to return from Babylon to Jerusalem, they were lost and unmoored from the things that gave their lives meaning and direction. We have all felt this at some point. We are seeking something to hold onto to give us hope and direction. Through the prophet Isaiah, God called to the people, “Listen to me…you who seek the Lord.” When we are lost and seeking direction, maybe the best thing we can do is to stop and listen. Because God is speaking, even today. Will we incline our hearts and minds to hear him? Join us this Sunday as we learn to hear God speak in “Listen to Me.”
