Why do we celebrate Corpus Christi?

The Solemnity of Corpus Christi is a celebration of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. At every Mass, under the appearances of bread and wine, Christ gives us His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. This gift of Himself strengthens us, unites us as His Church, and draws us into deeper communion with God and one another.

As Catholics, we do not merely remember the Last Supper—we encounter the same Jesus who said: “This is my body, which will be given up for you” (Luke 22:19). Corpus Christi invites us to renew our love for the Eucharist and to recognize Christ present among us, both at the altar and in our daily lives.

“I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever.” (John 6:51)

(Jn 6,51)

With his faith journey starting over 6000 miles from where he’s going to be ordained, Shengda “Martin” Zhu is a rarity: a cradle Catholic from China. Read how he deepened his faith and found himself being ordained in Los Angeles, and what question he asks God that keeps him going. 👇
