Christ is risen! Christ is risen, indeed!

If compassion for others stoked the same fires as conversations about “rights” and personal liberties do, we would be a different culture indeed! (Preston Clegg, Pastor of Spring Creek Baptist Church, Okla.)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
and he will make straight your paths. (Prov 3:5,6)

"Those who love me, I will deliver; I will protect those who know my name. When they call to me, I will answer them; I will be with them in trouble, I will rescue them and honor them. With long life I will satisfy them, and show them my salvation." (Ps. 91:14-16)

12/13/2012

"There is something unique about the hope that comes from Christ. In Christ we find that God does not stay far away from humanity, but becomes a part of us. This hope assures us that in the midst of our lives and world, God will be near to us. In Advent we wait in this hope and discover anew how God has been, is, and will be near to us." (d365, Andrew Kellner)

"Before many people will ever find community inside our churches, we are going to have to establish community with them outside the church.... We have to meet people at their point of need." (Michael Helms, FBC Jefferson, GA)
What needs can you meet today with those around you in order to build community?

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
come into his presence with singing.
Know that the Lord is God.
It is he that made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him, bless his name.
For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures for ever,
and his faithfulness to all generations. (Psalm 100)

Happy Thanksgiving!!

In the book of Ruth, Ruth puts her entire life on hold to take care of her mother-in-law, Naomi, after the death of her sons. It may be easy to say that while this is a big sacrifice for Ruth, it hardly “changes the world.” However, God is paying attention and chooses Ruth as the mother of a son whose family tree will one day bear the lineage that gives birth to Jesus Christ.
A humble act of love and compassion changes the course of the entire universe - and they never even realize it.
What choices will you make today?

Marc van Bulck

"Rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Anxiety weighs down the human heart, but a good word cheers it up. In the path of righteousness there is life...." (Prov 12:18, 25, 28a)
What words of love and peace have you/could you/would you offer someone today? "For those who counsel peace have joy." (Prov 12:20b)

11/07/2012

"Doesn't God seem more plausible, more real, more present, in the presence of peacemakers? And in the presence of hostile religious people, doesn't God seem less and less credible?" (Brian McLaren)
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." (Jesus) Mt. 5:9

11/05/2012

"This is why it is so toxic for the gospel when Christians picket and boycott and complain about how bad the world is... Why blame the dark for being dark? It is far more helpful to ask why the light isn't as bright as it could be." (Rob Bell)
