Wednesday 6:00 PM Pot Luck, Prayer, Bible Study The Community developed shortly after the Civil War, when a group of Confederate veterans settled at the site and called it Theodore. It soon became a community center for area farmers. By 1886 the nam

e had been changed to Dixie, and the community had acquired a post office, which it remained until 1902. In 1908 the settlement had 3 churches, a store, a gin, and a school. The school was consolidated with the Whitesboro district in the 1940s. A blacksmith shop continued in operation until about 1965. In the late 1970s the Missionary Baptist Church and Primitive Baptist church were still active in Dixie, which reported a population of 50 in 1933 and 25 for 1936-1990. In 2000 the population was only 17. Both churches are still active today. Missionary Baptist is now operating under the name of Dixie Baptist Church and is currently located at 21696 Highway 377 N in Whitesboro. God has used Dixie to touch many lives and fulfill the Great Commission since the first pastor in 1864 to the current pastor Terry Barnett. Pastor - Terry Barnett
