Many of us are familiar with Ephesians 6 and the armor of God, a metaphor for spiritual disciplines in our daily life. Interestingly, in Colossians 3 Paul uses another metaphor, to "cloth yourself" with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience...to forgive and to love.

So, these Christ-like virtues are in essence a base layer to go under the armor of God. Note that Colossians 3 deals with interpersonal relationships, how we react and treat each other: a key factor in spiritual development.
