Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church of Whitefish Bay

Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church of Whitefish Bay The Divine Service is celebrated each Sunday at 9:00AM. Sunday school and Bible class begin at 10:30AM. Join us!

We are a congregation of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod. As such, we accept all the canonical books of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired and revealed Word of God and all the Symbolical Books of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, contained in the Book of Concord of the year 1580, as the correct presentation and true exposition of Christian Doctrine drawn from the Holy Scriptures.

Join us as we celebrate the Ascension of Our Lord this Thursday, May 14th, at 6:30 p.m. Saints from our sister circuit congregations will be joining us. District President Meador will be our guest preacher. From the Father's mighty right hand, the Risen Christ is powerfully at work for the eternal good of His holy Church. Lift up your voice together with us as we offer our prayers and praises to the Lord of Glory!
"God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet" (Psalm 47:5).

Lent always arrives like a rude, unwelcome interruption. I'm just hitting my stride and finding my rhythm in the new year (finally writing 2026 instead of 2025). I'm just starting to stir and blink my eyes after a long winter's nap. And then, Lent arrives. Ash Wednesday interrupts abruptly.

It's not a welcome interruption. It's rude. It's dirty. It comes with a reminder that I am dust, and to dust I shall return. It marks me as mortal--and smudges me as sinful. It rouses me to do difficult work:
to remember my mortality
to repent of my sin
to return to the Lord

Lent also reminds me that I am loved by God and forgiven--that Jesus Christ loved me and gave Himself for me--and that nothing can separate me from that love. What wondrous love!

Lent begins as an unwelcome interruption. But it is needed and necessary. Ash Wednesday, in particular, is inconvenient and disruptive. It's a school night. It's a long day of work. Schlepping off to the Divine Service doesn't fit neatly into our schedules and rhythms. But we need this interruption. We need to be re-routed and detoured into paths of faith and repentance. We need the forgiveness, life, and salvation our Lord so graciously offers.

Won't you join me this evening at 6:30 to be interrupted--and to receive the gifts of heaven? Supper is served in the fellowship hall beginning at 5:30.

We had sugar and spice (and everything nice) at our annual Chili Cook-off on February 1st. Isabel Powers is the new chili champ of the church! Our first ever Dessert bake-off was won by Aaron Moldenhauer. Honorable mentions to Kara and Nate who placed in the competition with entries prepared in their dorm kitchens at CUW!

Little Baby Erik was baptized into Christ at 9AM this morning. Then, at 11AM, he assumed the starring role in the Sunday School Christmas Service. Welcome to the family of faith, little guy.
"And they shall call His name Immanuel" (which means, God with us).

Our Assistant Pastor and his lovely wife sailed off into the sunset on Sunday. We were sad to bid them farewell and godspeed. We will deeply miss all the ways they contributed to our life together in Christ.
