Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock - UUFR

Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock - UUFR The UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST FELLOWSHIP OF THE RAPPAHANNOCK - UUFR is a Lay-led fellowship. Services start at 10:30 AM.

UUFR serves Virginia's scenic Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula and is centrally located in White Stone. 60+ friendly members meet on Sundays and at a number of other spiritual and fellowship events throughout each month. Our very first Pastor has recently retired and we will begin searching for a new Pastor. Our own members alternate with visiting ministers and other speakers to provide inspiri

ng talks. UUFR is an intentionally WELCOMING to LGBTQIA congregation as well as supporting the BLM movement. We celebrate diversity and look forward to having you come visit us! Our Covenant:
We, as members of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock, come together to create a welcoming community of diverse people who search for spiritual meaning in our lives. We listen to each other; speak our truths, and respect ideas and beliefs that are different from our own. We take responsibility for our words and actions. We strive to be compassionate and loving with ourselves and with others. We promote social justice and serve all in our community

We affirm and promote the Seven Principles, which we hold as strong values and moral guides:

• The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
• Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
• Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
• A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
• The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
• The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
• Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

Please join us this Sunday morning May 31, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. as we gather for a service provided by Rev. Rob Moore. Rev. Rob will speak about The Altitude of Heaven. He says,

"As I continued to reflect on my experiences that I spoke about during last fall’s visit, I soon realized that much of my anxiety and vulnerability grew out of a fear of death, especially now as I have recently hit my 60th birthday. I know, I know, death is not necessarily a topic you want to
read about for an upcoming service! I’m pretty sure, though, that a major reason religion was
created and has flourished throughout our human history is as a way for us to make peace with our eventual death. So, we might as well talk about it in church every once in a while. We will
not be morbid or wallow in the seriousness of the topic, however. Of course, though, if you have been in proximity, recently or deeply, to death, please be compassionate with yourself in choosing whether to attend this particular service or not. Please join us on May 31st as we complete the pilgrim’s path (for now)."

Rev. Rob Moore has served Interim ministries in Grand Junction, CO and Port Townsend, WA. He went to Texas to be a part of the original ministry team of a new church start-up back in 2004. In addition to these ministries, he has taught Jr. High and Sr. High OWL, led a few Wellspring and Soul Matters groups, and participated in various choirs along the way, currently including The Richmond Men’s Chorus. He now works at Travelers Insurance where, in addition to his usual duties, he leads Mindfulness sessions and assists in plans for an enterprise-wide Mindfulness program.
He also now serves as a spiritual director and has served as the Affiliated Community Minister at Horizon UU Church in Carrolton, TX and now also at 1st UU Richmond where he just launched a new Soul Matters small group ministry.

Please join us this Sunday morning May 24, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. as we gather for a special Memorial Day service from our very own Charlene Talcott.

On Memorial Day, we honor those who lost their lives in armed combat. This Sunday, we widen our circle of remembrance to include non-combatants whose lives, families, homes, and futures have been taken or forever changed by war. We hope this service will dignify those unspoken wounds and remind people that the cost of war is never confined to battlefields.

Charlene Talcott is a life-long nature lover and worked in environmental education and volunteer management in government and nonprofit roles. She is a founding member of the Virginia Master Naturalist program and a member of the Northern Neck Chapter. She is a board member of the Virginia Association for Environmental Education and currently works as a project manager for non-profits. In her spare time, she enjoys listening to and playing music, learning languages, and snuggling with her two "big boy" retrievers. Charlene believes that the Divine flows through all living things and connects us with nature.

Please be prepared to observe safe distancing before, during, and after this indoor service out of respect and care for those who are invisibly immunocompromised.

Please join us this Sunday morning May 3, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. as we gather for a special service from our very own Lay Minister, Marlie Avant. Marlie will be exploring how divine wisdom and the sacred feminine can reshape our understanding of everyday life. Through story and gentle theology, the talk invites us to see wisdom not as abstract doctrine but as a river flowing through courage and tenderness, action and deep listening. It asks how we might let the inner marriage of feminine and masculine, doing and being, guide our choices, our service, and the way we move through the world.

Marlie Avant serves as a lay minister at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock in White Stone, Virginia. She has a deep passion for exploring the common threads that run through Eastern and Western religions and the earth-honoring wisdom of Indigenous traditions. Her ministry grows from a heart-centered desire to weave these diverse streams into a more compassionate, inclusive, and healing spiritual life for all.

Please be prepared to observe safe distancing before, during, and after this indoor service out of respect and care for those who are invisibly immunocompromised.

Please join us this Sunday morning April 12, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. as we gather for a special service from our own Eddie Correia, as he presents Part 2 of his series, "Eastern vs. Western Religion, Why Eastern and Western Religions Differ in Conceptions of the Divine"

Eastern and Western religions differ in fundamental ways. Eastern religions tend to emphasize the importance of the internal, finding wisdom through meditation and reflection on our place in the universe. Western religions tend to emphasize the external, a separate God and his (or its) commandments for living. How did these very different traditions emerge?

Eddie is a member of UUFR, a practicing attorney in Washington, DC, and an Adjunct Professor at the Washington College of Law. Eddie is a practicing attorney with a varied career, having been Senior Lawyer for the Senate Judiciary Committee, Chief Counsel and Senior Director of the Senate Antitrust Committee, and Special Counsel to the President for Civil Rights in the Clinton Administration. He is an adjunct professor in Constitutional Law at American University, Washington College of Law. In addition to more than 40 articles on legal and Constitutional issues, Eddie is the author of four novels and two books addressing the relationships between science and religion: The Uncertain Believer: Reconciling God in a Scientific World and Teaching Your Child About God in a Scientific World.

EASTER SUNDAY

Please join us this Sunday morning April 5, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. as we gather for a special service from our own Lay Minister, Marlie Avant as she brings us an Easter Sunday morning message. We’ll explore a different way of meeting Jesus - not as a distant religious figure, but as a wounded, deeply human companion who knows exile, betrayal, and beginning again. Through story, parable, and Indigenous wisdom, we’ll consider how the hard‑packed soil of our own experiences with church and dogma may actually be softening, becoming fertile ground for a quieter rebirth of the sacred in our hearts. This will be a gentle invitation for all who have been hurt by the church - to listen for a truer, more spacious way of belonging, to the earth, to one another, and to the Great Mystery of Love.

Marlie Avant is the Lay Minister at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock. Drawing on a lifetime of exploration in Western, Eastern, and Indigenous spiritual traditions, she shares stories.

Please be prepared to observe safe distancing before, during, and after this indoor service out of respect and care for those who are invisibly immunocompromised.

Please join us this Sunday morning March 22, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. as we gather for a special service from our own Ruth Micklem as she speaks about "UUFR Community Garden Project", an inspiring look at a new way to grow community—right from our own grounds.

Ruth will share her exciting vision for a UUFR Community Garden Project, a space for growing fresh food, deepening connections, and putting our values into action. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Just Harvest VA, a local nonprofit dedicated to food sovereignty and empowering Black, Indigenous, and other marginalized communities through sustainable, community-based food systems. Ruth will introduce us to their work and walk us through the plans, possibilities, and ways you can get involved as this project takes root and grows.
