September Member Spotlight ✨Kim Gardner✨

Kim has been a member at Parkview since 2009. Kim grew up in Central Pennsylvania, where she was first drawn into UCC church life through music. After losing her first husband and eventually remarrying and relocating to Minnesota, she knew she needed to find a church with a strong music program. She visited one UCC church that didn't have a choir at the time, so the following Sunday she tried Parkview — and the choir sang one of her favorite anthem, "In This Very Room." She knew right then she had found her church home!

Kim has given so much to Parkview over the years: serving on the Diaconate, Member at Large on Church Council, Silent Auction co-chair, funeral co-coordinator, choir member, and office fill-in. And her hand-made quilts for the Silent Auction & Bake Sale are a fan-favorite every single year since 2010!

Years ago, Kim and her husband used a $10 Heifer International fundraiser seed grant to put gas in their 1929 Ford Model A and gave rides after church. The highlight: Watching Jane Jones fly down the hill with her arms in the air, hollering "Whee!!"

Fun fact: Kim is the newsletter editor for the Minnesota Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America and is active at the local, regional, and national levels. She and her husband own several Model A Fords and a 1928 Gardner roadster and love sharing them with others.

Thank you, Kim, for your music, your quilts, your classic cars, and your love of community!

An invitation from Pastor Mark and Teresa Kuether:

💙 Twin Cities Dup15q Believe Walk 💙

As many of you know, our son Isaac is a wonderful, special individual in so many ways. What you might not know is that he lives with something called Dup15q syndrome.

We're walking to raise awareness and funds for the Dup15q Alliance — because getting the word out about this syndrome is a key piece of their mission. We'd love for you to join us for the walk on September 13th!

📅 When: Sunday, September 13th
📍 Where: Snail Lake Pavilion — 4191 Snail Lake Blvd, Shoreview, MN
🕐 Registration: 1:00 pm | Walk begins: 2:00 pm

https://charity.pledgeit.org/c/iw3x9v5ua2/cart

All funds raised go directly to the Dup15q Alliance, which provides family support and promotes awareness, research, and targeted treatments for chromosome 15q11.2-13.1 duplication syndrome. Their mission is to LEARN about the syndrome through research, TREAT the symptoms affecting patients, and ultimately CURE it — giving every patient the chance to lead a healthy, full life.

What is Dup15q syndrome?

It's a clinically identifiable syndrome caused by a duplication of a specific region of chromosome 15 (bands 11.2–13.1). This extra genetic material can lead to symptoms like hypotonia, developmental and motor delays, speech delays, autism, seizure disorders, anxiety, behavioral challenges, and sensory processing differences. No two individuals with Dup15q are alike — the range of abilities and experiences is wide and unique to each person.

Looking for a Sunday School that welcomes your family exactly as you are?

Parkview's first day of Sunday School is September 13th!
All Kids Welcome, No Membership Required!

At Parkview UCC, we're a progressive, Open & Affirming Christian church — which means our kids' classes reflect the same values we hold everywhere else: inclusion, curiosity, and love without conditions.

Our curriculum explores the teachings of Jesus through the lens of the body, heart, and mind — helping kids build a faith that's thoughtful, compassionate, and their own.

We are open to ALL children in our community, whether or not your family is a Parkview member.

This year we're running three age groups:

K–3rd grade: 10:00–10:45 am, Classroom A
4th–5th grade: 9:30–10:15 am, Classroom C
6th–7th grade: 9:30–10:15 am, Classroom B

4th–7th graders join worship at 10:15 to sit with family or help out in the service.

Our teachers bring real experience to the classroom — backgrounds in special education, teaching, libraries, and early childhood education — and a genuine love for walking alongside kids in their faith journey.

Beyond Sunday mornings, our youth programs help kids build cross-generational friendships, live out their faith through mission-based activities, and grow as leaders in the church and beyond.
