Please consider these beautiful words of Pope Benedict XVI:

"The task of communicating the Gospel of Jesus Christ to others [evangelization] remains reasonable...There is... a... way to justify this task today.

Joy needs to be communicated. Love needs to be communicated. Truth needs to be communicated.

Someone who has received a great joy cannot simply keep it for himself; he has to hand it on. The same is true for the gift of love and for the gift of recognizing the truth that is manifested...

Let us proclaim Jesus Christ, not in order to gain as many members as possible for our community, much less for the sake of power. Let us speak about him because we feel that we must hand on this joy that was given to us.

We will be credible announcers of Jesus Christ when we have truly encountered him in the depths of our being, when through the encounter with him, we have received the gift of the great experience of truth, love, and joy" (22-23).

If you are a parent mourning the loss of a child -- no matter how long ago you lost your child, no matter the age of the child, and no matter the circumstances of your loss -- it's not too late to register for our upcoming Emmaus Ministry Retreat for grieving parents.
It will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, in Wheeling, on Saturday, October 14th, from 9:30 AM to 7:30 PM.

Emmaus Ministry and the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston are offering a day-long, spiritual retreat for grieving parents, on Saturday, October 14th, 2023. It will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, at 2244 Marshall Avenue, Wheeling, WV 26003. Any grieving parent whose child of any age has died by any cause, no matter how long ago, is welcome to attend. The cost is $25 for an individual and $40 for a couple. TEC stands for Teens Encounter Christ. TEC is an international, spiritual-renewal movement in the Catholic Church that strives to bring young people and adults into close, personal relationship with Jesus Christ. TEC is a community, led by the Holy Spirit, that gathers people into Christian groups of faith, while attempting to incorporate its ministry into the overall ministry of their members’ dioceses and parishes.
The primary method employed to gather people into Christian community and form them in the Christian life is that of the weekend retreat. At the weekend retreat, which usually runs from Friday evening to Monday afternoon, the participants are led into Christ’s Paschal Mystery, through a combination of presentations, activities, talks, prayer, community building, and liturgy.
The next TEC retreat that will take place in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston will be held from Friday, January 14th to Monday, January 17th, at the St. John XXIII Pastoral Center in Charleston, West Virginia.
It will be free for all teens who are in their junior year of high school through first year of college.
