WHAT ARE THE KEYS TO GOD'S KINGDOM?

Jesus handed Peter something enormous. You have the keys to the Kingdom, He told him.

Right before that, Jesus told him to keep quiet about who He was.

He was walking a tightrope. Fall one way, and He's a strongman making a name for Himself through shows of strength and popularity.

Fall the other way, and He's a threat to the religious rulers and to Rome, which puts everyone near Him in danger.

His message was simple: Don't shout like the angry leaders of your day, and don't put my name everywhere as a sign of your devotion.

You don't need to bluster about or be afraid. There's no t-shirt to wear, no flag to wave, and no power trip to be a part of.

The keys are what you do. What Peter does with that power is far more impactful than anything he could announce or proclaim.

So how do you build this new way of Jesus? Through your very life, because actions speak louder than words ever could.

Today’s Sunday School activity for our kids was talking about how we follow in the footsteps of Jesus. In the big church, we ended with Dolly Parton‘s “I have decided to follow Jesus.” What a wonderful day!!
