The Feast of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary is this weekend! In ancient Israel, the king's mother was honored as the Queen Mother, and so we do the same with Mary today. Hail, Holy Queen!

Today the church honors St. Maximillian Kolbe, who died for another in an Auschwitz starvation cell while ministering to nine other prisoners. Learning more about him is a quick car ride away. Plan a field trip to Libertyville and the National Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe at Marytown. Find out more at kolbeshrine.org. St. Maximillian Kolbe, pray for us. ❤️

St. Maximilian Kolbe was a Polish Catholic priest and Conventual Franciscan friar who volunteered to die in place of a man named Franciszek Gajowniczek in the German death camp of Auschwitz, located in German-occupied Poland during World War II. Kolbe led the other prisoners who were sentenced to death (by starvation) in prayers and songs in their final days, and died himself - from an injection of carbolic acid - with what witnesses described as a look of serenity and joy. St. Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us 🙏
