In 1944, Bob Evans, a 26-year-old US Navy Chaplain was sent to southern France to bring spiritual hope to men in battle. He became the first chaplain to willingly set foot in the normally off-limits combat zones.
"This was not a job for the faint of heart. As the only chaplain with the invasion force, I found myself taking on the weighty responsibilities of praying with wounded soldiers in the medical tents at the end of their lives, in addition to encouraging my friends who had accepted Christ in recent days." -Bob Evans (in an excerpt from the book "Worth The Risk" by John Gilberts and Jazz Jones Becker)
On this Memorial Day, we pause to remember the many men and women who have given their lives in service to their nation. And we pray for peace among all nations as the gospel of Jesus goes forth, shining brightly into the darkness of our fallen world.
