Come celebrate Reformation Sunday!

Reformation Sunday - Romans 3:19-28

We are not saved by what we do, how well we perform, or how faithfully we follow religious rules. As Lutherans, we hold precious the belief that we are made right with God by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. This freedom releases us from the burden of earning God's love and frees us to live, love, serve, and stand boldly for the sake of our neighbors. Come, hear the Good News.

This Sunday, the St. Paul Choir will be singing a new arrangement of Psalm 46 that contains strains of our opening hymn, “A Mighty Fortress.” The choir will also sing “Forevermore” during the final hymn, with congregational participation when “O God, Out Help in Ages Past” is woven into this joyous Reformation anthem. Reformation Sunday wouldn’t be complete without a Bach prelude and fugue on the organ!

Today’s service. Haven’t the sermons lately been SO relatable to St. Paul Wheaton? God is definitely speaking to us!

Presiding Bishop Yehiel Curry has issued a statement on the recent proposal to livestream an ex*****on in the United States.

"As a church, we are not strangers to the mournful effects of violent crime. Our congregations minister to victims, to offenders and to communities that experience the ripple effects of its trauma. We recognize the need to protect people from violence, to call perpetrators to repentance, and to seek restoration for victims. United in our resistance to hate and in our joy over the good news of God’s grace, we minister to an often-vengeful society with words and actions of hope, justice and healing."

Today is Indigenous Peoples' Day!

"Give thanks for Indigenous communities that have lived in the Americas and other parts of the world for thousands of years. Pray that we will not overlook them in our telling of history and that we will honor our church’s commitment to repentance, reconciliation, healing, respect and unity as children of God." —Prayer Ventures

More of Our Property Dollars at Work

Property Committee Co-Chair Eleanore Richards is very excited that the large rug by the main entrance to our sanctuary recently got a makeover! Best Way Rug Cleaners in downtown Wheaton made it look spiffy, plus we have a new pad as well (replacing the old one that was disintegrating). We greatly appreciate both Eleanore and Deana Sons for taking the time to roll up the rug (no small feat!), get it cleaned, plus sweep the floor, so that we may have a brighter and more welcoming and tidy narthex.

This Sunday begins the season of the “changing paraments.” This past week, we enjoyed the Quilt parament, gifted to us last year by St. Paul's Labor of Love team. That quilt now adorns our sound board ... Gorgeous!

As we enter the season of Stewardship, we start with the inspirational Creation paraments and Giving banner that grace the chancel. These paraments were designed and created by Ginny Harms and Nancy Hubbard. The beautiful fall side wall banners (shown above) were designed and created by Deana Sons. We are blessed…

Stay tuned for more about these special paraments and other changes that will lead us through to the end of the liturgical year. Come to church and allow our beautiful chancel to enhance your worship
