This Sunday, November 2, at our regular service at 10:00 AM, Pastor Ron will preach on Zacchaeus Climbs High to See Jesus based on Habakkuk 1:1-4; 2:1-4 and Luke 19:1-10. Zacchaeus was a wealthy and despised chief tax collector in Jericho. Unable to see Jesus over a crowd, Zacchaeus climbs a tree, and Jesus calls him by name, declaring that He will stay at his house that day. Zacchaeus then joyfully repents and vows to give to the poor and repay those he has defrauded. Jesus declares that salvation has come because of his repentance, and that the "Son of Man came to seek and save the lost".

This Sunday, September 28, at our regular service at 10:00 AM, Pastor Ron will preach on Pursuing God’s Justice, based on Psalm 146 and 1 Timothy 6:6-19. Paul instructs Timothy that the wealthy must not be arrogant nor place their hope in their riches, but rather in God, who provides all things. The rich should be rich in good works, be generous and be willing to share. Thus they lay up treasure for themselves for the future, truly grasping eternal life, and finding their hope and security in God, not uncertain wealth.

Looking ahead, we join our long-time partner, the Peoples’ Resource Center in Wheaton in celebrating their 50th anniversary on October 4. That will be our next Little Red Truck donation opportunity, from 10 AM to 12-noon at the church. Particular needs include personal care products like bar soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes. Canned goods are always welcome. For more info on the anniversary, see Home - People's Resource Center. Congrats, PRC!

This Sunday, September 21, at our regular service at 10:00 AM, Pastor Ron will preach on God, the Helper of the Needy based on Psalm 79:1-9 and Psalm 113. The Psalms are a call to worship a transcendent yet merciful God – they emphasize divine power and compassion. They urge continuous praise for God's majesty and His raising the poor, the needy, the afflicted and the outcast to positions of honor. They highlight the paradox of a God exalted above all creation who nonetheless lifts up the lowly.

Sunday, September 14, at our regular service at 10:00 AM, Pastor Ron will preach on The Cross is the Power of God based on Psalm 98:1-5 and 1 Corinthians 1:18-24. The message of the crucified Christ, which the world sees as foolishness or a stumbling block, is actually the power and wisdom of God for those who are being saved. Paul contrasts the world's limited human wisdom with God's divine wisdom revealed in the cross, which shames the world's wisdom and strength by choosing the "foolish" and "weak" to demonstrate God's power and save believers, thereby preventing anyone from boasting in themselves.

This Sunday, September 7, at our regular service at 10:00 AM, Pastor Ron will preach on Choose Life based on Psalm 139:1-6;13-18 and Deuteronomy 30:15-20. Deuteronomy 30:15–20 is a pivotal passage where Moses, in his final words, presents the Israelites with a clear choice: life or death. The option for life entails loving God, obeying his commands, and clinging to him, resulting in blessings and prosperity in the Promised Land. Conversely, choosing death means turning away from God to worship other idols, leading to curses, destruction, and exile. Moses emphatically urges the people to "choose life" for themselves and their descendants, emphasizing that God himself is their life and the key to a long, blessed existence.

This Sunday, August 24, at our regular service at 10:00 AM, Pastor Ron will preach on A Prophet to the Nations based on Psalm 103:1-8 and Jeremiah 1:4-10. In God's call to Jeremiah as a prophet, emphasizing His intimate relationship with him before his birth, God assures Jeremiah that he is chosen and empowered to speak His word, despite Jeremiah's initial doubts about his abilities. This passage underscores the theme of divine predestination and the assurance of God's presence and support throughout Jeremiah's prophetic journey, making it a powerful reminder of God's sovereignty and faithfulness in calling individuals for His purposes.
