Have you ever watched someone decorate a cake?

They fill the bag, they squeeze, and the pressure forces the icing through the tip. What comes out is determined by the tip, not by the bag or the hand squeezing it. The shape was already decided. The pressure just produces it.

I've been sitting with that image all week. In Romans 5, Paul uses it for something unrelated to cake. And I think for a lot of people, tomorrow is going to land somewhere real.

Paul wrote Romans 5 for the people who came in tired.

Not the ones who have it figured out. Not the people with a strong week behind them. The ones who are carrying something and not sure how much longer they can.
He doesn't start by telling them to try harder or hold on. He starts by reminding them what they're standing on. Because you can't honestly talk about what holds you through a hard season until you know what you're actually standing on.

That's where we're going Sunday. Romans 5:1-5. Week 3 of Imagine. 9:30 AM at KVCC.

What do you do with a season that feels like destruction but might actually be something else?

Sunday we're in Romans 8, and Paul does something I didn't expect. He doesn't rush past the pain. He names it. Then he pulls the camera way back, past the church in Rome, past human suffering altogether, and says something that stopped me cold.

Creation is groaning too.

And he calls that groaning something surprising.

Every parent knows the feeling of being handed an impossible standard and trying to meet it anyway.

"Endurance. Keep him in the air all day. First light to dusk, his feet cannot touch the ground."

Longneck isn't being cruel. He's telling Roz what Brightbill actually needs, even if it breaks her heart to do it.
